As Many As God Calls

One weakness of Catholic theology is that salvation requires us to be called. Infants can't be called.

The promise of Acts 2:38 is only for the called.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Even if a baby is baptized, the promise is not effective unless the person was called.

Those applying Acts 2:38 to babies missed the calling part. We are called through the Gospel. It isn't faith only, but requires a response to his calling through baptism.

2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Th 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

Even the Romans are referred to as called, no infants are implied in the Roman Church. All were called.

Rom 1:6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

The word Church in Greek means Called Out.
