Babes Not Required

Since infants were not included in the numbering of the households as far as eating the Passover, we see an example where infants could be there but were not required to observe Passover laws. It would not be an issue until weaned.

All were required to eat of the Passover except infants.

Exo 12:4  And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.

Babes could be present but had no requirements to eat lamb or bread. This was true of the entire feast of unleavened bread. This was also true of being baptized in the cloud and the sea. Babes were not  included though they were present. The baptism was for those brought to belief by witnessing the power of God, much like those baptized in the New Testament after viewing signs and wonders.

This is true of all commandments concerning eating,

Exo 16:12  I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.

Those eating bread and quail were old enough to know God's power and provision.

This seems to compare to those eating of Christ in the wilderness, babes were too young to make application and not required to make the correlation. Those baptized were the same as those who were old enough to eat.

all ate

all drank

all baptized

thus, only those of required understanding in eating and drinking were considered baptized in Paul's understanding.

1Co 10:4  And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 1Co 10:3  And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 1Co 10:2  And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Unto Moses required them to be able to recognize Moses as God's prophet sent to lead them.

A true Jew was one who was not just circumcised, but inwardly accepted God's law.

Rom 2:28  For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

Rom 2:29  But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

A true Jew required growth in spiritual areas, and babes though circumcised outwardly, were not part of the congregation until belief.
