Death Passed To All

One way of thinking about death is that it means eternal loss, or eternal separation from God. As with Adam God placed road blocks to him eating of the tree o life.

Yet, we know that Adam's death would not be eternal.

1Co 15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

This does not mean that in Christ all are saved, but the entire human race died physically in Adam, and the entire human race will be resurrected to take part in the judgment. In Christ can speak of Christ's work regarding the saved or unsaved. We may be baptized into Christ which is his work of redemption, but Christ has a work for the saved and lost. All will be raised physically.

Our physical deaths are made temporary in Christ. This does not mean all resurrected will live in heaven forever.

Joh 5:28  Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

Joh 5:29  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

The physical bodies of all of Adam's posterity will be made alive for the purpose of judgment.

God allowed physical death to pass to all, but spiritual death and life, the 2nd death, will be based upon individual sin or salvation.

Catholic theory places the 2nd death, to be based upon Adam's sin, therefore infants would need baptism for life. There is no evidence for this theory. Physical death passed to all through Adam, but this general rule was displaced by Jesus on the cross. In Christ all are made alive, then the 2nd death will be based upon our personal lives. Infants will be judged by God according to his righteousness.

The 2nd death, eternal separation from God, is based upon our own sins and our own obedience to the Gospel.

Rev 20:13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Rev 20:14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Rev 20:15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Joh 5:39  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Joh 5:40  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Life here means freedom from the 2nd death when we come to Christ.

The question for infant baptism is whether the second death is based upon Adam's sin, to my knowledge only physical death is tied to Adam, our personal sin leads to eternal loss, salvation from our personal sin leads to eternal life.

Death passed, or as the Greek word implies, it traversed upon all men throughout the earth, the justification of God's decree that all men die being proven by all men becoming sinners as each man matured in knowledge.

Babies were decreed to die also because God foresaw they would eventually become sinners. God foreknew the destiny of each that they would sin.
