Prayer and Believing
One verse that shows that salvation is through faith, but not by faith only is
Mat 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
In this case believing is present with prayer, not in the absence of prayer. Prayer must still take place to receive some things
Believing is a state you must abide in while asking. Without asking belief doesn't lead to answered hopes in these cases.
This is similar to worship and belief.
Act 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
In this case our worship is directed by believing what was written in the prophets.
We can worship under the New Testament because Jeremiah revealed God would ratify a new covenant.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
In this case a church's worship style and beliefs are different if they believe the prophet's testimony or not.
Belief doesn't replace worship, belief in the scriptures directs our beliefs about worship.
