Hermeneutic Hebrews
Hebrews 7 is a good chapter in developing a hermeneutic for the New Testsament. It teaches us to evaluate whether God implemented a practice or not.
It looks to see if something was historically practiced or not. Heb.7:13
It questions whether there were commands or mentions in scripture. Heb.7:14
It questions whether another practice is more relevant and applicable. Heb7:15
It questions if a practice is evident or speculation. Heb.7:15
It questions if the law is simply carnal or powerful. Heb.7:16
It asks for God's testimony through prophecy and oath. Heb.7:28
It determines need vs show, christ need not offer daily. Heb.7:27
It questions timing, "which was since the law" Heb.7:28
We can apply these to other practices such as instruments, all such questions are useful in seeking God's will.
