A Little Leaven

The impact of small changes can be rather large in the end. Twice Paul uses the analogy of leaven changing a congregation.  Once change has started it can easily effect the entire church or groups of churches.

It also explains how the entire church could fall over time, as it references the entire lump. Many Churches fell into Catholicism until it dominated politically and religiously.

1Co 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

In Corinth they were beginning to entertain sin in the body without any reprimand. The concept of Grace without discipline. The idea of grace without repentance.

They gloried of accepting sinners by overlooking evil works. Sort of a grace/Faith only environment.

Gal 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

In Galations it was the idea that one must be circumcised and keep the law.Almost the opposite extreme from that in Corinth.

Both changes could cause people to live outside of the faith and be lost.

Both changes were extremes brought in by different groups who had changed the Christian teaching in select areas.

The point isn't in bringing up those topics as much as it points out how change can take place over time.

Catholicism didn't come to fruition over night but through a steady leavening, faith only didn't come overnight either.

Catholicism insists we are still under statuatory law by Catholic canon.

but

Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

You can't have two masters, you can't be led by the Holy Spirit and a human law such as the Catholic Canon.

The Holy Spirit isn't immoral, but saves final judgment against the immoral for when Christ comes.

Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

About 50% of Catholic priests will be lost simply for practicing the uncleanness of homo-sexuality.

Within the priesthood is the doctrine of pursueing the flesh without penalty against themselves (Corinthian Leaven), they simply absolve each other, while expecting others to abide by a human invention in Canon Law.(Galatian Leaven)

They actually practice both extremes.

In Corinth the man's practice of being with his father's wife was known through multiple congregations so Paul made it known that such practice was not accepted in Christ and the man should be disciplined to keep it from spreading as an acceptable norm, and to save the man from such a sin. In the Roman empire many rulers married sisters or close relatives, but this wasn't acceptable in Christ. Accepting the man as-is would ceeate a deadly precedent for the church as a whole, leading many to destruction.
