Freedom

Faith only groups tend to claim we have freedom to do anything that isn't immoral. This is based upon Colossians 2.

Col 2:14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

In their view the church is not tied down to ordinances in any fashion.

Col 2:20  Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

Col 2:22  Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

This word ordinance involves dogma from man and is different from another word for ordinance that is a transmission from God.

Colossians is referring to commandments made effective on Christianity, such as bringing in commandments from the Law of Moses or other laws not given in Christ. These were dogmas from different groups.

Many of these dogmas are present at the Council of Nicea and other councils.

The Church is required to keep the ordinances transmitted to it by Christ,  the Holy Spirit, and the Apostles.

1Co 11:1  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

1Co 11:2  Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

This is a different word for ordinance and involves the transmission of commands and activities we are to follow.

These are not necessarily in law form, as if you get thrown in jail for breaking one accidently, but they are authoritative. God wants the church to actively keep them.

Baptism

Lord's Supper

Church activities commanded by God

Ordaining Elders and Deacons

Paul follows this pattern in telling Timothy

1Ti 1:3  As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

The commands through I and II Timothy for instance are authoritative and not to be changed.

Faith only groups such as the Wesleying branches, Methodist and Assembly Of God, deny that we have ordinances at all and create a false freedom, where we are free from the transmissions of Christ. In a sense lawless and anti-Christ.

This leads to a very loose interpretation of Christ's commands.
