Subject To Christ

I was listening to a sermon the other day that was backwards from what Jesus actually taught.

The speaker said we do not obey to be saved but because we are saved. I do not doubt we obey out of love, but the speaker dismissed a motive that is just as relavent. He was trying to paint a faith only view of obedience.

Even after being saved we obey to be saved in an eternal sense.

Rev 22:14  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

The view we do not obey to be saved is actually backwards from Christ in Rev 22 and is actually completely backwards from Paul in Ephesians.

Eph 5:24  ThereforeG235 asG5618 theG3588 churchG1577 is subject untoG5293 Christ,G5547 soG3779 let theG3588 wivesG1135 be to their ownG2398 husbandsG435 inG1722 every thing.G3956

The word "subject" in verse 24 is the word "under obedience". This is an act of love on our part but also an act of authority.

G5293

hoop-ot-as'-so

From G5259 and G5021; to subordinate; reflexively to obey: - be under obedience (obedient), put under, subdue unto, (be, make) subject (to, unto), be (put) in subjection (to, under), submit self unto.

It is the same word used of Christ being under his parents growing up. Though Christ was the son of God, he grew up being subject to Joseph and Mary.

If we choose not to subject ourselves to Christ we will be lost, even if Christ originally saved us.

In baptism we are servants. Se Romans 6:18

"ye became servants of righteousness"

We are to stand ready to serve Christ as if a servant standing beside his king.

.

Also, Revelation 22 reveals Christ says obedience will give us the right to the tree of life.

Christ gives the right to those who willingly subject themselves to his authority.
