The rise of the Illuminati in Europe was based upon a secret society that was opposite "Faith Only" theology. The Illuminati favored a works based system where human productivity was cherished.

Groups associated with the Illuminati such as the Free Masons favored works and that is the basis of the Mason's today. That is why they have projects to help in medical areas.

You could say the Illuminati was competing with Faith Only groups for power. Both religions were trying to control society.

Both the illuminati and Faith Only were off theologically. One was works based without the Gospel and the other was faith based without human obedience.

It seems the groups wanting to control society were all off.
