acquainted with the night

TASK: Read the poem below. Then, write a plagiary. Describe what you have (not) done in your life, or use your imagination. You might want to make it funny by writing “crazy” things.

Acquainted with the night (Robert Frost)

I have been one acquainted with the night.

I have walked out in the rain – and back in rain.

I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.

I have passed by the watchman on his beat.

And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet

When far away an interrupted cry

Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;

And further still at an unearthly height

One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time as neither wrong nor right.

I have been one acquainted with the night.

Go to Plagiarizing Robert Frost

UESC/PARFOR/English students were told to read the poem "Acquainted with the night", by Robert Frost.

Then, they were supposed to write a plagiary describing what they have (not) done in their lives, or just to use Frost's poem as a model for some poetical writing.

Here is their work, revised by prof. Isaias Carvalho. December 2013.
