Breaking News – Guidelines

For the purpose of oral assessment, in each class, appointed students are supposed to bring a piece of news to report to and discuss with the class (maximum of 5 minutes). The sources of the news must be authentic (in English). Options include: cnn.com / bbc.com.uk / The New York Times / Reuters / Financial Times / Time Magazine etc.

For Business English students: Bloomberg / CNN Money / Financial Times / The Economist / CNBC / BBC Business News / Reuters Business and Finance

This kind of oral assessment is supposed to be less threatening, as well as a guarantee that students will be doing most of the talking every class. That makes the learning process less teacher-centered. Students eventually become more autonomous, while boosting their vocabulary and speaking skills.
