PYRENEAN CYCLE ADVENTURE

Club members Michael O' Mahony and Joe Dea recently spent a couple of days riding in the French Pyrenees.Over the duration they climbed many of the cols adjacent to Lourdes, but i would safely say a couple of decades of the rosary on bended knee were said before their ascent of the mighty Tourmalet.

Scaled twice in this year's Tour de France, the legendary Col du Tourmalet climb has been part of the race since 1910 when it was first introduced in stage 10 by race director Henri Desgrange as the capstone to what would be referred to as the "Circle of Death": the Pyrenean foursome of the Col de Peyresourde, Col d'Aspin, Col du Tourmalet and the Col d'Aubisque.

Col du Tourmalet ascent is 19 km long. Over this distance, you climb 1404 meters to reach its peak of 2115m. The average percentage pans out at 7.4 %

Well done to you both for conquering and flying the club colours on this iconic and mythical climb.

Joe Dea put together a photo video of their trip.
