Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 6th May 2012

Summer League Another big week of racing was on the cards as Youghal Cycling Club hosted week 4 of the summer league. This week it was back to the Gortaroo loop that would cover a fast paced 30km circuit. With category 6 & 7 riders dominating the previous weeks the higher category riders were coming under pressure to produce some results. Conditions were great on the night with very little wind to affect the riders. With the major junctions marshalled, the riders rolled out from 7pm. Just under an hour later it was category 3 rider Anthony Keneally that crossed the line first to take his first win of the league. Well done Anthony! In total we had 28 riders out for week 4. Keep it up folks. The league table stands as follows:

Round 5 will be held on Thursday 10th May. We are meeting at Summerfield Cross from 6:30pm with the first racers heading off at 7:00pm. The format of this weeks be a handicapped 10km time trial.

Racing All the racing for the weekend were on the shoulders of Eoin Whyte & Jason Collins as they raced in the Corkman 3 Day Road Racing Series. Both riders have been cycling well on the Saturday & Sunday. Hopefully they will continue this form and bring a win on Monday.

Sportiffs The Club are now in preparation for the annual Tour De Cure. This is being hosted by Midleton Wheelers and is supported by Stephen Roche. The tour has three routes, a 50km, 100km and 160km. Please watch the facebook page for further details.

Club Spins A hectic schedule was on the cards for the May weekend. On the Saturday we had 18 riders head off early on to cycle the roads of West Waterford covering a lumpy 120km route. Sunday morning is the business end of the week for Youghal Cycling Club, beginning at 8am we had a group of 8 riders head off to test the coast road to Dungarvan and pick up some climbs, including the infamous Strikes Hill before sprinting in the main road home in time for lunch with 120km in the legs. At 9am a second group of 16 riders met. Most of these had heavy legs from the previous day and decided to take the relatively flat, but fast, main road to Cork and back. Again a good route and 100km covered. Finally we had our third group of the day head off from Moby Dicks at 10am. They took the East Cork route taking in the sea views and passing through Garryvoe & onto Midleton before turning back to Youghal.

Tuesday & Thursday at 10am from Lidl Carpark – Intermediate Cycling

Tuesday 7.00pm – Moby Dicks for a 90-120 minute high tempo spin
