Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 30th October 2010

Very sadly I have to express the condolences of Youghal Cycling Club to the family of the late Zoe Lehane Levarde. At only 18 months old Little Zoe lost her battle with AT/RT Cancel last week. Zoe touched many people lives in her short life and will leave a lasting memory of the fight she put up. Our thoughts are with her family & friends. There is a book of condolences at www.mysisterzoe.com

A large group assembled for our weekly club spin from Moby Dicks at 9am on Sunday morning. This week we chose the East Cork route that brought us out to Beanfield & on through Clonpriest. At this point the peleton were getting a little dreamy as one of the group mistakenly took a left at Gortavadda – wake up WF! With a quick about turn we were back together again and on the road to Shanagarry via Kilcredan to take in that lung-bursting pinch at Ballybutler. The pain of the ascent is gladly over and forgotten about with the nice rolling descent into Shanagarry with the newly resurfaced road at Lower Garryvoe. Moving on towards Cloyne we were moving along handily and took in the East Ferry loop before stopping for the tea in Midleton. We were only a little wet and the craic was good as we tucked into the drinks and cream cakes. Of course it was “half cup” again who was first on the bike shouting to get going. We duly followed and took the main road back to Youghal for midday with a handy 45 miles complete with an average speed of 15mph.
