YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 12th September 2010

2010 An POST Rebel Cork Tour – Saturday 11th September 2010

A fine group of Nine men and women from Youghal C.C. headed to the Show Grounds in Cork last weekend for our final Sportive of the year, Blue skies and a healthy Peleton of around 1000 lined up along the Grand Parade for the Grand depart while we watched and enjoyed a cup of coffee. Fueled to the hilt we hit the road to take part in 160km Rebel Challenge. The route headed out of the city through the Wilton and Bandon Road roundabouts. Along the N71 road into West Cork through Halfway, right toward Crossbarry on the R589 on to Bandon, bypassing the town and proceeding on the R586 through Enniskean and Ballineen and onto Dunmanway toward Clonakilty. From their we continued on the R600 through Timoleague, Kilbrittan and Ballinspittle along the coast of Garretstown and the Old Head before coming back in to Kinsale in a burst of rain. The route then joined back up on the N71 at Halfway and headed back for the City via the Viaduct, and onto Bandon Road roundabout where the cyclists were be directed toward the finishing point at the Cork City Showground’s. A fantastic day on the bike, where we actually covered 170km.

National B Championships 2010 – Sunday 12th September

The National B Championships took place in Waterford last Sunday with Eoin Whyte travelling to represent the club. The route involved a fast 100km course made up of five 20km circuits. With a fast pace been set by the 140 participants, Eoin attacked on his own and got away on the last climb of the day around8km from the finish. With the Peloton winding it up behind him in an attempt to bring home back, he maintained a 30 second gap to within the last 1km and was finally caught just 500m from the finish line. Unlucky. Congrats on a great solo ride Eoin from all at the club. With just a couple of months racing completed this year for the first time in many a year, you have showed that the form is coming back and that next season looks to be very promising for you. Well done.

The Race Around Ireland 2010 – Tuesday 14th September

Team Youghal are expected to be passing through Youghal this Friday the 17th September at around lunch time, so if you can, get out there and give them your support.
