YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 31st JANUARY 2010

The Weekly Spin – Sunday 31st January.

The good weather continues as well as the clubs Sunday morning spins when a group of 10 riders gathered as always outside Moby Dicks at around 9.00am and headed on out the main road to Dungarvan. All were well warmed up by the time we reached the Shanachie where we turned down into Ring & Helvick for a well deserved hot cup of coffee. Refueled, we traveled the coast road through Old Parish, down into Ardmore, through Piltown and home to Youghal, where we arrived back for around 12.30pm with 60km in the legs.

As always, it would appear that the sneaky training continues within the club when the boy of the Terry’s was spotted getting in a few quite miles. Also spotted out were Ger & Brian. With all this sneaky training going on, the rest of us will be put under a lot of pressure if both John Terry and John Healy followed by Ger Flanagan and Brian Fitzgerald get on the front of the peleton while going up hill. I am going to have to get in some sneaky miles myself just to keep up. Keep it up lads, its good to see all getting in those spins.

Get Well Wishes

The club would like to extend get well wishes to the clubs former Chairman, John Flynn Snr who is successfully recovering from a very serious operation had last week. Get well soon John and we hope to see you on the bike again very soon. While we are on the matter of extending get well wishes, Id better extend them to myself as I am currently recovering from a falling out with gravity which occurred while working last week. I might be off the bike for a few weeks but I will however be keeping tabs on what is happening on the Sunday morning spins through my many spies within the peleton. So be warned, I’m going to get something on all of ye. Especially all those sneaky training specialists.

New Sponsors

The search for new sponsors goes on to help fund the new club kit and as always it is proving quite difficult. If anyone knows of any business or person interested in sponsoring the club then please contact our Club Secretary Jonathan at 086-8563292 for details.

Weekend Spins.

As you are all well aware by now, there is a weekly spin every Sunday morning at 9.00am sharp leaving from Moby Dicks Pub by the Clock Gate. This spin which runs on various routes every week usually takes between 2 to 3 hours ( weather permitting ) and covers on average between 50 to 70km ( 35 to 50 miles ). The pace is comfortable and we usually stop half way around for a coffee or tea.

A second group also goes on a weekly spin every Sunday morning at 10.00am sharp leaving from Moby Dicks Pub by the Clock Gate. This spin which runs on various routes every week usually takes around 2 hours to complete and covers on average between 30 to 40km ( 20 to 25 miles ). The pace is again very comfortable.

This is the perfect time for someone new to start with the group. With a steady pace and friendly people you are assured of an enjoyable spin. New members or visitors to the area are always welcome. If you have any questions about the club or attending one of our weekend spins, please contact our Club Secretary Jonathan at 086-8563292 for details. See you all Sunday Morning !!. Until next week, safe cycling !!.
