YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 20th June 2010

NEW Club Kit Roll Out 20th June 2010

It finally arrived. The new club kit was unveiled last Sunday when a group of 10 gathered at Moby Dicks at 8.00am for our grand depart. All suitably kitted out in the blue and magenta Santani gear, we decided to take in a scenic coastal route for our weekly Sunday Spin.

We rode out the main Cork road before diverting down the bog road for Ballymacoda. From their, we climbed the coastal road to Garryvoe and onto Shanagarry before turning down to Ballycotton. We climbed again out of Ballycotton up to Churchtown South before dropping down to Whitegate for our scheduled coffee stop. As we dined on our refreshments, we were treated to a rowing race taking part in the Bay. Suitably Refueled and ready for road, we took off again for Aghada and Saleen before rolling around East Ferry and onto Midleton. From there we rode the main road back to Youghal for around 12.30 pm with a challenging 100km route completed.

The 10 O’ Clock group consisting of 6 riders also gathered on the good morning in the new Kit. The riders also traveled out the main Cork road before diverting down the bog road for Ballymacoda. From there they rode onto Garryvoe and Shanagarry where they refueled on tea, coffee and sausage rolls for some. Ready for road, they rode onto Cloyne, Ballinacurra and Midleton before turning back the main road to Youghal. They arrived back in Youghal for around 13.15 with another relaxing 65km completed for those who participated.

The Leahy Cup, Cobh, Co. Cork.

Last Sunday, Ballymore Cycling Club held their annual Leahy Cup Race in Cobh. On the day, THE Youghal club was represented by Eoin Whyte and Brain Sanders, also in their new club kit. They were both riding the senior event which consisted of 7 laps of a 10km and very hilly circuit. The who’s who of southern road racing were all in attendance, so this was to be biggest challenge of the year for the lads. Both rode very well with Eoin finishing in the top 10 and Brian finishing in the main bunch. Well done lads, more of the same soon please.

Best Of Luck

Best of luck to Local Youghal IRONMEN, Tom Curran and Connor Coleman, who have this week departed for France to take part in an International Ironman event. Best of Luck lads on this mammoth task. Tune in next week for a full report on how they got on.
