Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 28th January 2013

Club Spins Cold, windy, potholes & loads of craic is best how to describe the weekend of cycling. Not a club to shirk away with the inclement weather, large groups assembled all weekend for the various spins. Saturday saw the advanced intermediate group tackle The Vee returning through Dromana Estate and looping the by-pass to get a nice 100km into the legs with over 1150m ascended. Meanwhile the intermediate group did an 80km route where they stuck to the main roads and did a return trip to Glounthaune. Sunday saw the two groups face strong winds as they both travelled through loops that that brought them through Dungourney and Midleton. All in all with the weekends riding there was in excess of 350km covered by all groups, well done folks and keep it up! On a more serious note folks, the condition of the roads is pretty poor. Please ensure that you continue to call potholes and road hazards in plenty of time for riders behind to react accordingly. We also ask motorists to be a little more conscious of cyclists in this weather as these hazards and cross winds can cause us to move out of line unexpectedly. Please give us at least 2 meters when overtaking, this would be greatly appreciated.

Spinning & Core Training Last week saw us resume the spinning classes and it was great to see some new and old faces turn up. The class is typically made up of 50 minutes spinning and 20 minutes core work. Classes are scheduled for 8pm on Tuesday, cost is E5 each. All club members welcome.

Membership Club membership is now overdue and we would ask all members to make contact with Club Treasurer, John Walsh, regarding this.

Schedule as follows (weather dependent):

Intermediate (70-100km at 24kph)

Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from Lidl at 10am

Sunday from Lidl at 9am

Adv Intermediate (80-110km at 28kph)

Saturday & Sunday from Lidl at 9am

Leisure Cycling (30-50km, average 20kph)

Sundays at 10am from Moby Dicks

Spinning & Core Training

Tuesdays at 8pm, Aura Leisure Center, Youghal

Please note that all riders are expected to have road bikes (racer type) of good repair for scheduled spins. Riders must wear helmets, bring a spare tube & pump.
