THE ACCENT OF STRIKES – Sunday 7th March.

What goes around comes around. We were all glad to see another fine bright Sunday morning for our weekly spin last Sunday. The last couple of weeks have really been making up for all that bad weather we had over the Christmas Break. A group of 14 gathered as always at Moby Dicks at 9.00am and decided to take in a sheltered spin due to the slight breeze that was a blowing. We headed out the main road to Dungarvan and turned left for Clashmore to get a bit of shelter. We rode through Clashmore and Aglish before taking the back road to Dungarvan. When we arrived back on the Main Road just outside Dungarvan, the weekly fun and games started when the USUAL SUSPECTS started jumping around again before the scheduled coffee stop. It was however a race of truth as the club secretary braved the hazards of the road to take the sprint ahead of the Schleck Bros. He won’t get away with that stunt again !!!. The remainder of the group rolled in a minute later and we all enjoyed a warm coffee and a full inspection of Joe’s new steed. Congrats Joe, may she serve you well. We got going again and decided that since at least half of the group had only heard the stories and the rumors about the climb known as STRIKES, it was time to make men out of these boys. We duly started the accent of Strikes Hill with the new boys all looking very nervous. That was of course until Joe decided to see what a triple chainset could do on a steep hill. We all watched with amazement as he flew up the hill on his new steed and was shortly followed by the new men. Don’t worry lads, that’s just a taste of what’s to come in the summer. With the climb completed, we recovered on the road to the Shanachie before opening up the lungs and the gears as we flew home to Youghal with a welcome tailwind. We arrived back in Youghal for around 12.30pm with 85km in the legs. Well done to the old boys or should we say the new men, especially the block laying hamster ( have you ever heard of that ? ) who made some of the old lads look well past their sell by date with his accent of Strikes.

YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 7th March 2010

The 10 O’ Clock group consisting of 4 riders also gathered on the good morning and traveled out the back road to Glendine and up to Knockanore before turning back up into the wind and onto the Tallow road. From their, they rode back on down into Youghal with a comfortable 45km completed. Another great spin for those who participated.

Patrick’s Day Parade

The Club secretary is currently making arrangements for the up and coming parade. Anyone in the club who can’t make it on the day is being asked to let him know well in advance.
