YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 13th February 2011

Three groups take to the road for the weekly spin

There were plenty of Youghal CC jerseys on show last Sunday morning when three different groups took to the road on the bright sunny morning.

The first group of 7 departed at 9.00am sharp from Moby Dicks and headed out the main road to Midleton via Killeagh and Castlemartyr. From there they took the back road to Rathcormac where they stopped for some refreshments. The shortly departed however and again stayed on the back roads to Tallow via Castlyons and Conna. From Tallow they tackled the climb back to Youghal on a road that could only be described and crater ridden. After managing to get through the potholes, they dropped swiftly down into Youghal for 1.00pm with a steady 95km completed. A great start to the new group of the club.

The next group of 12 also departed at 9.00am from Moby Dicks and headed out the climb to Knockanore. From there we dropped down to Campfire Bridge and took the back road to Tallow, which was safer than the main road. In Tallow we tackled the steep climb to Lismore and wound it up through Lismore. From Lismore we climbed the Vee with Wayne and Anthony doing a Johnny Bulman pace setting effort on the front. At the top with turned right and wound it up down the decent into Cappoquin for the coffee stop. Eoin as usual taking the bragging rights !. Refueled, we headed for Villarstown via Dromina Drive, then on through Aglish and Clashmore. From there we hit the main road and cruised back to Youghal. Legs were all heavy at this stage with only Healy and Kenneally tackling the Bye Pass. We all however arrived back to Youghal at 1.15pm with another 95km completed

The third group 8 of departed Moby Dicks at 10.00am. The riders also traveled out the main Cork road before diverting down the bog road for Ballymacoda. From there they rode onto Garryvoe and Shanagarry where they refueled on tea, coffee and sausage rolls for some. Ready for road, they rode onto Cloyne, Ballinacurra and Midleton before turning back the main road to Youghal. They arrived back in Youghal for around 13.15 with another relaxing 65km completed for those who participated.
