YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 14th November 2010

Jack Frost Cycles with Youghal C.C. - Sunday 14th November

A fine fresh Sunday morning greated members of Youghal C.C. last weekend when a group of 10, and a certain Jack Frost, gathered at Moby Dicks for our weekly spin. The club was to depart at 9.00am sharp but we were delayed by the club Secretary, AKA, MAGNUM P.I., who turned up on the day without his helmet. His excuse? He said he spent too long grooming his MUSTACHE, or as they are calling it this month, his MOVEMBER.

When Magnum P.I. eventually returned at 9.15am, we quickly headed out the Waterford road for Clashmore and rode the more exposed back roads to Cappoquin were we stopped and warmed up with a nice hot coffee. Banter finished we rolled off again. We had intended on returning back through Knockanore but with the back roads expected to by icy in that area we diverted to Lismore and then Tallow. From Tallow, we climbed up the Youghal Road with Healy showing that he is back in form by riding strong on the front and imploding the group at the top of the climb. When he was finally told off, the group re-grouped and dropped down into Youghal for an all our assault on the Bye-Pass. Spin complete, we arrived back in Youghal for 12.30 with a refreshing 75km completed. Special mention for James “ CAV ” O’ Mahoney this week who wouldn’t get out of bed on that fine Sunday morning as he said, and I quote “ It’s too COLD to go out ”. Nice one Cav.

A fine group of 12 also gathered at Moby Dicks for the 10 0’ clock groups weekly spin. Due to the frost, they correctly decided to ride it safe by sticking to the main road for the spin. Out the Cork road they headed but they didn’t get far before 3 of them landed on their behinds before Farrell’s Pub. Injury free, they set off again for Killeagh and Castlemartyr where they also warmed up with a nice hot coffee. Roads drying out, they set off again back to Killeagh and Youghal where they arrived for 12:30 with a slippery 35km completed.

The ladies branch of Youghal C.C. also continued their weekly Saturday morning spin when a group of 3 departed Moby Dicks at 9.00 am for another leisurely spin around East Cork.

Killeagh Woods also had an outing last Saturday morning for some of the Mountain Bike Heads of the club. A hard 90 minute spin was undertaken as we ripped it up the woods. A special mention for the young main from Killeagh who was on his maiden voyage with a mountain bike and his special friend, Mr. Breakfast, who also joined him for the spin one third of the way around.

Oh and yes Mr. Bulman. Just when you thought you were going to get away with it. We all saw you getting into the car as we left Youghal last Sunday morning. Don’t tell me it was too cold for you as well. Mmmm, we will see next week then eh?
