YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 03rd APRIL 2011

The Three Counties Club Spin – 03rd April

A damp and heavy morning greated 20 members of Youghal C.C. last Sunday morning when we lined up at Moby Dicks for our weekly club spin. As usual the 12 that gathered at 8.00am split up into two groups of 8 and 6 respectively and departed not long after. The remaining 8 gathered and departed at 10.00am for their weekly spin. A further 4 members traveled to Fermoy where they pinned on their racing numbers for the day.

The first group of 8 headed for County Waterford taking in Clashmore and Aglish before dragging our backs wheels up to Ballymacarbary. From their, we took the FIRST and incorrect left up over the drags but finally after a few more wrong turns, the Secretary got us on the correct road to County Tipperary where we rolled onto Newcastle and stopped in Clogheen up for the coffee break. Fully loaded we took off again and enjoyed the scenic views as we climbed over the Vee and back into County Waterford with a bone shaking decent into Lismore. From their we took the usual road back into Tallow and climbed the Tallow Road back to Youghal where we arrived for 12.45pm with a tough 125km spin completed. Concern was expressed on the day however for Johnny B who was missing from the weekly spin. Some say that he has been over training!, others say that he has been under training !, I think he just slept it out cause I spotted him on his own on the way back into town at 1.00pm. You will get away with nothing around here lad!!

The second group of 6 also headed for County Waterford and quickly got into it with an accent up the Tallow road. Climb completed, they dropped down into Tallow and hung a left to Conna and Rathcormac. Going well, they climbed up to Watergrasshill for the coffee and cake. Refreshments devoured, they rolled off down to Glanmire and Glountaune before reaching the main road at Carrigtowhill and rolling fast back to Youghal via Midleton, Castlemartyr and Killeagh. The 110km spin was completed for 12.45pm. Another good ton completed lads.

The third group of 8 also gathered at Moby Dicks last Sunday morning at 10.00am for their weekly run. They covered a sheltered route up the main Waterford road to the Shanachie before turning left and dropping like stones down into Clashmore for the coffee break. From there, they rode back through Piltown and home the main road to Youghal for 12.30pm with a nice 50km completed.

Ladies Spin

The female side to the club got the pedals turning again last Saturday when a group of three gathered at Moby Dicks for their weekly spin. Departing at 9.00am, they took the main road to Killeagh and back and Castlemartyr where they braked for a coffee. The returned to Youghal again via Killeagh, completing a 25km spin. Keep it up Girls !! and more of the same next week.

Birthday Wishes

A very happy 21st Birthday to Club member Brain Sanders last week. Hope you had a good night and that last Sunday was the last club spin that you will miss, other wise there will be a queue for them there Cosmics of yours !

Silver Pail Grand Prix, Fermoy, Co. Cork.

The club was well represented last Sunday in Fermoy Co. Cork when Fermoy C.C. held their annual Silver Pail Grand Prix. On the day both Eoin Whyte and Tom Curran lined up for the A3 Race with Jason Collins and James O’ Mahoney lining up in the A4 Race. Eoin and Tom went very well on the fast circuit but unfortunately missed the break of the day and rolled in 30 seconds later within the peleton. Jason and James also gave it a lash in their A4 race and done well to hold the relentlessly fast pace. They both rolled in just behind the leaders and again gained some valuable experience for there first years of racing. From what we have been hearing tough Mick, you should be pinning on a race number and showing these young bucks how it is done!! Keep it up lads, it’s a long season and every race ye take part in will only improve the form for the races later on in the season.
