Youghal Cycling Club – Sunday, 25th March, 2012

Upcoming Events Only 5 more midweek spins until the weekly league starts on April 12th, time to get the miles in to make sure that you are on for it. Next sportiff that we are in training for is the Kilmallock Hub Tour, this is on Sunday, April 15th. Meanwile on the racing circuit, Fermoy CC will be holding their annual Silver PAil GP, on Sunday 1st April. I am sure we will have our usual representation in the A3 & A4 categories. Keep posted for more information.

Weekly Spins The regular club spins were significantly down on numbers this week as both groups headed to Midleton, to support the Midleton Wheelers fundraising cycle for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. Some of the crew met bright and early at Moby Dicks and cycled to Midleton. Here we met up with the rest of the Youghal crew and by the time the peloton rolled out of town we had a nice crew in excess of 20 cyclists representing the club on the day. Leaving Midleton we took the main road to Youghal. The pace was controlled by the lead car and ensured that a nice group was kept together as we cycled into the strong easterly wind. Things were leisurely until we hit the bypass, when the trio of Tobin, closely followed by Hill and Fitzgerald attacked the lead and moved out front for the honour of being first over the bypass. Fitzgerald and Tobin held their place in the first fifteen over the top while Hill made it with the first three. Well done lads. Gregg had his blood pumping good at this stage and stayed with the lead groups all day to finish the 80km after a good 2:13 cycling. Further back the field the Youghal crew had reassembled and were working the chain and sticking together. Halfway to Tallow we had grouped up with another team from the Tour De Munster and we all shared the load. After Tallow we took the familiar tough road to Dungourney before descending back down to Midleton. The sportiff was a challenging 80km cycling with an average speed of 30kph cycled. Special words of mention must go to Ronan, Kieran and Paddy for a great days cycling. The boys dug deep and held the wheels all day, don’t give up lads, it will be getting easier as the miles clock up! After this weeks cycling we have some big shake ups on the rankings. Gregg continues to collect the honours as he picked up a Polkadot and Green Jersey today, but alas a Bulman has missed today’s event he loses his Yellow to Fitzgerald who was hot on his heels for the past few weeks. Keep posted for further updates!
