YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 23rd January 2011

Club Spin – 23rd January

The winter training continued last Sunday when a group of 17 gathered at Moby Dicks at 9.00am sharp for a main road trip on the frosty winter morning. As both the first and second groups were going to head the same way, it was decided to ride as one group and keep the pace steady for all. Out the N25 we headed for Killeagh and Castlemartyr and from there we rode around Midleton and on up to Carrightowill for a warming cup of coffee. We didn’t stop for long however as we didn’t want to cool down too much so quick smart, we were back on our bikes for the return journey to Youghal along the main road. Rolling nicely through Killeagh, we picked up the 6 members from the 10 O’ Clock group, who were also on their return leg of the spin, and they all sat on nicely for the run into Youghal. We had a quick diversion however for some of the mountain goats of the club when it was decided to take a trip up Youghal’s own Belguim Berg, Geary’s Hill. And that of course it where all the fun started. I wont say any more because I would only seriously embarrass two people in particular but a bit of advise to you both, loosen the springs on those pedals cause it’s a long walk to the top and we don’t want anyone getting hurt now do we !!. We regrouped after the climb and rolled handy back into town for 12.30pm with another fine 80km spin completed.

Weekend Spins.

As you are all well aware by now, there is a weekly spin every Sunday morning at 9.00 am sharp leaving from Moby Dicks Pub by the Clock Gate. This spin which runs on various routes every week usually takes between 3 to 4 hours ( weather permitting ) and covers on average between 60 to 80km. The pace is comfortable and we usually stop half way around for a coffee or tea.

A second group also departs at 9.00am for a 3 - 4 hour spin, and covers a 50 to 70km distance at a slightly slower pace for those wishing to make the transition from the third group to the first group.

A third group also goes on a weekly spin every Sunday morning at 10.00am sharp leaving from Moby Dicks Pub by the Clock Gate. This spin which runs on various routes every week usually takes around 3 hours to complete and covers on average between 30 to 40km. The pace is again very comfortable.
