YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 20th February 2011

Club Spin – 20th February

Considering the weather forecast that we were all given for last Sunday, there was still a healthy 22 members of Youghal C.C. turning up at Moby Dicks for our weekly club spin. A certain hard element were surprisingly missing, well, they used to be hard elements, now they will all be called the soft sunshine element of Youghal C.C.

For those of us who are not afraid of the elements, we split up in to two groups of 12 and 10 and departed at 9.00am and 9.10am respectively. Both groups headed for Killeagh and took the back road to Mogeely and then the short pinch up to Dungourney. From there we rolled along nicely with the wind on our backs up to Castleyons. At Castleyons the first group split into two further groups with six going on to Fermoy and the other six heading back to Conna, Tallow and Youghal where they arrived back for 12.00pm with 75km completed. The other six stopped in Fermoy for Coffee and Jaffa cakes after which we took the back road to Ballyduff. We then climbed out of Ballyduff along the back road to Tallow and then tackled the Tallow Road before dropping down into Youghal for 1.30pm with 100km completed.

The second main group of the day covered the same parcours as the first group but when they reached Castleyons; they headed for Rathcormac before turning back to Lisgould and Midleton for their Coffee break. Refueled, they took the main road back to Youghal via Castlemartyr and Killeagh. They also arrived back to Youghal for 1.30pm with 100km completed.

A third group of 7 also gathered at Moby Dicks last Sunday morning at 10.00am for their weekly run. They covered a sheltered route around East Cork taking in Ballymacoda, Ladysbridge, and Castlemartyr for the coffee stop, Killeagh and back to Youghal for 12.30pm with a challenging 40km loop completed.

Good to see three new cyclists out on the road with this group.

For all those on the road last Sunday morning, hats off to yee all. It was a tough day on the bike for all with that 40km/hr wind in our faces, for all the return legs of our Journeys. As tired as we all felt, it was good training and it will only stand us when we are partaking in all those cycle sportive later this season.
