Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 10th March 2013

Club Spins Last weekend saw the second long spin from the intermediate group. They headed off bright and early on Saturday morning taking the coastal route to Kinsale and back. The round trip was a 160km route with the return leg in particular being more difficult as the group had to contend with a strong south-easterly wind. Keeping the group tight and rolling over frequently at the front kept the group in good spirits and back to Youghal in great form!Special thanks go out to Sean Broderick for driving the support van for the day. Keep posted for the next outing!

Racing Sunday 10th March saw a group of 7 riders head off to compete in the Rás Luimni as hosted by Limerick CC. Facing into a terrible south-easterly wind and driving sleet the group worked hard in the 65km A4 race. The 7 riders were Dave Heffernan, Anthony Keneally, Jason Collins, Wayne Fitzgerald and making their debuts for the year were Jon Flynn, Gregg Hill and Cillian Keneally. All riders stayed with the main group for the first lap. However, the long pull out of Cahirconlish split the peloton with Anthony, Dave and Wayne holding on for the final lap. They held their composure and were part of the sprint finish with Wayne being the first Youghal rider over the line in the top 20. Well done lads and keep it up, it was great to see such a large group representing Youghal CC in the racing scene!
