I reluctantly agreed and we took off again knowing that we had a hilly return to Youghal. A slow start was had as we waited as always for John to complete his regular nature call after the feed zone. When he eventually finished, the two new Iron Men of Youghal took to the front and pulled the group along the back roads and over Campfire Bridge before we arrived at, for the second time that week, the climb of Strancally House, otherwise known as the uncategorized climb, THE WALL. All did very well over the tough accent and we cruised back along Glendine towards Youghal where we emptied out our tanks on the Bye-Pass. We arrived home to Youghal for around 12.00 pm with a fine group of 12 completed the 90km route.

YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 06th June 2010

The Climbing Spin, 6th June 2010

With the Tour Looming for the Pro’s and The Ring Of Kerry for the Club, a mountainous spin was planned for our Sunday morning spin on the Bank Holiday Weekend. An 8.00am sharp depart from Moby Dicks led us out the Tallow Road which we duly ascended at a very comfortable pace after which we dropped down into Tallow in good time and well warmed up. From there we climbed again up and out of Tallow before dropping down into Lismore where the King Of PUNCTURE REPAIRS, punctured himself for a change. The Golf Course Grease Monkey showed off his mechanical skills by going through two tubes and two CO2 canisters while making the record breaking pit stop. All cold and warmed down we departed the scene of the crime and made our way through Lismore and started our first accent of the Vee this year. All happily climbing well over the Vee, In fact, the boy Terry was so happy with the climb, he ripped his bottle cage from his frame in a powerful display of satisfaction. Climb completed we rolled well back down to Cappoquin for our scheduled coffee stop. Suitably Refueled and ready for road, a certain Mr. Bulman, not happy with the amount of Climbing we had completed, suggested that we travel back through Knockanore seen as do it was such a good day.

The 10 O’ Clock group consisting of 5 riders also gathered on the good morning. The riders departed and traveled out the Quarry Road and rolled onto Mount Uniacke before dropping down into Killeagh and taking the back road to Mogeely and the Two- Mile Inn. From their, they rode back the main road to Castlemartyr where they enjoyed the scheduled coffee stop, no cakes this week !!. Refueled, they rode onto Killeagh before arriving back in Youghal for around 12.30 with another challenging 45km completed for those who participated.

With a Mechanical trouble festival taking place the previous week, the sneaky training continued for some of this group who used the spin out the Waterford road to An Ghaeltacht and back through Ardmore to test out some new club equipment, namely, shoe cleats and climbing cassettes for the rear wheel. These quy’s must be planning something Big ? Watch this space.
