Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 14th October 2012

Club Spins Another bright and sunny Sunday morning saw a large group of cyclists assemble at Moby Dick’s at 9am for the regular weekly club spin. The rookies headed off east and took the scenic coast road to Dungarvan via Ardmore & Ring. They stopped for the usual cup of tea and chat in Dungarvan, before striking for Clashmore and back to Youghal in time for lunch with a very respectable 90km on the legs. Meanwhile the club peloton regulars headed off towards Clashmore and climbed to Kielys Cross via Grallagh. From here they descended into Ring and onto Dungarvan before stopping in Capaquinn for the cup of tea and craic. Back in the saddle they went to Lismore and Tallow before rolling back into Youghal with 120km on the legs. This week there were 7 new riders down with the rookies, this is a great time to take up cycling as we are in winter training and working on building groups of various ability. All riders can be accommodated for. We have the beginner/seniors head off every Sunday at 10am. They are typically covering 30-50km at an average speed of 20kph. The rookies leave at 9am, they are covering 70-90km at an average speed of 25kph. The roadies also leave at 9am where they cover 90-150km at average speeds in the range of 28kph.
