Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 7th October 2012

Club Spins Last Sunday we had a large group of 28 cyclists assemble at Moby Dicks for the weekly Club spin. We are currently encouraging those who have taken up cycling to come down as we are starting some beginner spins to get cyclists introduced to group cycling and increase endurance. With that we were delighted to so see more than a handful of new cyclists among them. Shortly after 9am all 28 cyclists rolled off and headed east into Co Waterford. Shortly after crossing the bridge the groups split and the intermediate riders went off on their 95km route while the beginner group took in a 70km route. Feedback from the beginner group was positive and it was great to see that they had enough energy to take in the bypass when back in Youghal, well done guys and girls!! Same again next week.

Nicolas Roche Cycle Last Sunday Midleton Cycling & Triathlon Club hosted Ireland No. 1 cyclist Nicolas Roche for the weekend. As part of this event they held a 60km cycle with Nicolas on the Sunday. Entries were limited to 60 riders and it was great to have 4 Youghal CC members make up part of the peloton. The route left from The Rock Tavern and took in Castlemartyr, Mogeely and Midleton before rolling back into Cloyne. The pace was controlled throughout the route and kept the group together. Well done to Midleton CTC on a fantastic event and also to Nicolas Roche who was a gentleman and took time to talk to all riders. Rumour has it that he is going to change his schedule and come to Youghal to do his off season with Johnny Bulman!!

Club Charity Cycle On Sunday 28th October we will hold a cycle from Youghal to Castlemartyr and back. This will be controlled pace event and we encourage all cyclists (beginners, sportiff riders and racers) to come along for this event. Entry fee is E10 and all proceeds will go to local charity.

Club AGM Last Thursday we held our AGM. To be honest the attendance was poor, with the same old faces turning up. It would be great to see the attendance increase and have people come up with their ideas on what can make the Club stronger. But note it is not too late to let your voice heard and we encourage members to continue to come up with suggestions to develop your club. Many topics were covered and we can report that we have secured the Youghal Cycling Club Criterium and The Vee Challenge for 6th July and 11th August respectively. We have also set the date for the Club league for 4th April to 23rd May inclusive. The format will be an 8 week league, with 1 hill climb and 1 time trial. Entry is again limited to club members. More details on all events will follow as the year progresses.

Schedule as follows (weather dependent):

Sunday at 9am from Moby Dicks – Adv. Beginner & Intermediate Cycling

Sunday at 10am from Moby Dicks – Beginner (& Golden) Cycling

Please note that all riders are expected to have road bikes (racer type) of good repair for scheduled spins. Riders must wear helmets, bring a spare tube & pump.
