YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 18th April 2010

ITS ALL ABOUT THE MILES ! – Sunday 18th April.

The spins are coming thick and fast at the moment with everyone taking advantage of the good spell of weather. There has been fast spins on Tuesday & Thursday recently with that trend looking to continue , weather permitting, so it was agreed to slow down the pace a little of the Sunday spin and up the mileage / km’s a little. A fine group of 16 gathered at Moby Dicks at 9.00am for our usual Sunday morning spin and there was another new machine on show. The Treasurer turned up on a new KUOTA to break the back of the Trek dominance. Well ware Brian, she looks the business and I hope that she will be able to keep up with your legs !!

After all the route deliberation, we headed up the Tallow road trying to warm into the cold headwind. As usual we had to dodge the potholes as we dropped down into Tallow. From there we turned left for Conna and road steady along the lumpy road to Castlelyons. From there the group split into two. The first group climbed the back road to Dungourney before dropping down into Midleton, the second took the longer and flatter road to Watergrasshill before turning back to Lisgould and onto Midleton. Both groups arrived in and around the same time at the Garage on the Mill Road for our scheduled coffee stop. Re-freshed, we headed back the main road to Youghal through Castlemartyr and Killeagh before opening it up over the By-Pass. We all arrived back in Youghal at 12.30pm with 100km completed.

The 10 O’ Clock group consisting of 5 riders also gathered on the good morning and traveled out the main road to Dungarvan before turning down for Piltown and Ardmore. From there they climbed on up to Kiely’s Cross and opened it up down into Youghal. Felling fresh the also tackled the Bye-Pass where we meet them while coming down the other side. They also arrived back into Town for 12.30 with another challenging 50km completed for those who participated.

Kilmallock CC Club Tour

Kilmallock CC will be holding the annual club tour this Sunday the 25th April. A number of club members have confirmed that will be traveling to the event. Kilmallock CC who as we all know supported our own club tour last season in large numbers. This will be our first official trip of the season so anyone looking to travel should contact the secretary, Jonathan Armstrong, sorry I mean Lance Tobin for details.

Congratulations

Congratulations to local club man Eoin Whyte who pinned on the racing number and added the go faster shaved legs to his body for the first time in along time last Sunday in Carrick On Suir when he took to the start line for the Snr Men’s Race ( The Tommy Sheehan Memorial ). The race was won by Cathal McCarthy of The Edge Racing Team with Eoin holding on to the finish in the main field. A distance of 85km ( 56 miles ) was covered at an average speed of 35km/hr ( 24 miles/hr ). A fantastic result for someone with little to no racing training this year. Watch this space for guaranteed future results.
