Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 19th August 2012

Sportiffs The last two weeks have been hectic for Youghal Cycling Club. First up was the Annual Vee Challenge. This is our annual sportif as hosted by Youghal Cycling Club. With some very poor weather in the days leading up to the event, it was looking to be a very wet and windy day for the 200+ riders that turned up for the event. Luckily for us the band of rain passed over early morning and left us with perfect conditions for the riders taking on the 90km and 130km routes. The sportif passed off very well due in no small part to the help from all the marshals, drivers, ambulance support, the local Gardai, Youghal GAA & caterers. Feedback from participants is that the tour is very enjoyable and the new addition of the Knockboy climb for the 130km route has everybody talking and looking forward to next year.

Last week we then had a large group of riders head to Dungarvan to support their 100km sportif. With some stiff southerly wind a tough but enjoyable days riding was had by all.

Next weekend we are off to Dungarvan again to enter in the annual Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford. This is a fantastic weekend that will see in excess of 10,000 riders take to the road over the weekend covering various routes from 12km for the kiddies to 50km, 100km & 160km for the more experienced riders
