Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 27th November 2011

The mild weathered Movember is proving to be a fantastic month for Club cycling. Groups from Youghal Cycling Club were on the road every day this week. Our Saturday morning spins have taken off and a steady group has been gathering at the Mill Road for the 10am spin. This week we had a nice group of 20 riders on the Saturday morning. They headed off out the Glendine Road and on into Clashmore and Tallow before taking the road back home with a nice 80km on the legs.

Sunday mornings continue to grow with 28 riders gathering for the weekly spin this week. Taking advantage of the mild weather we also headed out the Glendine Road. 10k into the spin we had some technical problems as club snappy had a creaking back bearing that pulled his spin short and he turned back home to pick up the Sunday papers and settle into a full Irish – he was lucky 27 riders did not follow him!! The group managed to re-gather at the top of the climb where they rolled on into Cappaquinn and Lismore. The thirst had not set in yet so we ploughed on to Tallow for the coffee and bit of wheel kicking. Again technical hitches hit us as Rear of the Year (JC) punctured. After a quick change of tube we hit the road again. New lesson for JC – get new tyres, as after a mile down the road he punctured again. This time he conceded defeat, pulled up, and made the call for a spin home – I suspect a full Irish was on the cards here also. Things now settled into a nice pace and once we reached Kilnafurrery we turned off and made towards Mount Uniake which then brought us nicely into Killeagh. Some of the group were a bit giddy at this stage and there were some wagers being made at the back when half a dozen riders fell off to play a little “chase the lead group”. Needless to say the bould Whyte won bragging rights and Gregg would have been served better by skipping the GAA Dinner Dance the previous evening! While “Team Look” will have to get back on their summer bikes if they wanna keep with the chasing pack. All in all we rolled into town after getting a handy 90km done with a steady pace of 25kph. Same again next week!
