YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 06th February 2011

Club Spin – 06th February

The weather got the better of the club last Sunday morning and it was a lonely (but dedicated!!) three riders turned up for the 9am spin on Sunday. Their route fot them in a tough 70km in the conditions - well done lads!!

It would seem that the boy Bulman has taken the sun with him to foreign waters. Consious of the looming tours a good sweat however was still worked by five members of the club as we hit Aura Gym for a full on spinning class under the instruction of Wayne “ Fonda ”. In fact so much sweating took place that the blocklayer drew a crowd of onlookers through the Gym door window to marvel at him in action on the bike. Sorry John, I know I said I would leave you alone for a few weeks but after last Sundays performance, you left me with no choice. A good hard hour was eventually put in before we all left with spaghetti legs. This was a good alternative from cycling in bad weather conditions for anyone doing the Mizen to Malin challenge this year. Take note that a number of us will continue to do same any Sunday morning that the weather is too poor to cycle in.

Club Monthly Meeting

Our Second of the years Club Monthly Meetings was held last Wednesday, the 2nd of February, at the Holy Family Church, Youghal. There was a good turnout at the meeting where a number of important issues were discussed. The new Club Gilets where given out on the night and the final details on this summers Mizen to Malin head cycle were agreed upon. A total of 21 cyclists from the club will participate in this challenging event over the June bank holiday weekend. A training programme has been issued to all cyclists taking part and all are advised to do as best as they can to match each week’s targets.

Ring Of Kerry 2011

This years Ring Of Kerry Cycle takes place on Saturday 2nd July. It is intended that a large group from the club will be traveling to Killarney this year to participate in same and the club is currently arranging accommodation for the night before the event. Anyone looking to be included in this group booking is asked to confirm there place at next month’s Club meeting as accommodation is usually booked out in Killarney for the event very each year. Details and costing’s of the accommodation will be given out at the next meeting.

Weekend Spins.

As you are all well aware by now, there is a weekly spin every Sunday morning at 9.00 am sharp leaving from Moby Dicks Pub by the Clock Gate. This spin which runs on various routes every week usually takes between 3 to 4 hours ( weather permitting ) and covers on average between 60 to 80km. The pace is comfortable and we usually stop half way around for a coffee or tea.

A second group also departs at 9.00am for a 3 - 4 hour spin, and covers a 50 to 70km distance at a slightly slower pace for those wishing to make the transition from the third group to the first group.

A third group also goes on a weekly spin every Sunday morning at 10.00am sharp leaving from Moby Dicks Pub by the Clock Gate. This spin which runs on various routes every week usually takes around 3 hours to complete and covers on average between 30 to 40km. The pace is again very comfortable. This is an ideal group for anyone interested in taking up the sport.

New members or visitors to the area are always welcome. If you have any questions about the club or attending one of our weekend spins, please contact our Club Secretary Jonathan at 086-8563292 for details. See you all Sunday Morning !!. Until next week, safe cycling !!.
