Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 1st July 2012

Sportiffs No sportiff activity last weekend. However we have a big crew heading off to Killarney next weekend to compete in the annual Ring of Kerry Sportiff. For many of those travelling to Kerry this will be their first Ring of Kerry, best of luck folks! Cycle safe and enjoy the weekend!

Club Criterium Road Race It is many years since the Club last a criterium, with the recent upswing in popularity in cycling we have decided to run the event again this year. It is scheduled for Friday evening, 6th July 2012. We will have two separate races. One for the A1/A2 & A3 categories, the second race is for the A4 riders. Both races will be 35 minute races. As riders are lapped they are retired from the race by the officials. Once the 35 minutes are up all riders then continue for a further three laps where the first over the line is the winner. Throughout the hour there are also spot prizes to keep thing exciting. The streets will be closed to traffic during the event. Further details will be made available to residents in the coming days.

Club Spins With cyclists in the height of the sportiff calendar we had committed to assisting the Waterford Sports Partnership on one of their scheduled training spins for the Sean Kelly Tour. With that, the 8am and 10am groups headed to Cappaquin for 9:30am, to meet the budding cyclists and bring them on a 50km spin to get used to group cycling. We took them on a nice route around West Waterford, into Knockanore, Tallow onto Lismore and back to Cappaquin. From here the 8am group continued on to take in The Vee before swinging back to Youghal with a comfortable 120km on the legs and home in time for lunch.

Welcome addition Congratulations to Club Secretary Jon Tobin and his wife Denise on the birth of their wonderful daughter Megan last week.
