YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 13th March 2011

The good weather conditions continued last Sunday morning where a healthy 16 members of Youghal C.C. lined up at Moby Dicks for our weekly club spin. As usual, we split up in to two groups of 10 and 6 and departed at 8.00am and 8.10am respectively.

The first group of 10 headed in the Waterford direction where we tackled the Tallow road climb, avoided the countless potholes along the top stretch and dropped down nicely into Tallow on the newly re-surfaced Waterford County Council section of the road. From Tallow, we again climbed up the Fermoy road and rolled along the top before dropping down fast into Fermoy. From Fermoy we climbed the old Cork road to Rathcormac and Watergrasshill where the Secretary STOLE THE SHOW with an attack to the feed stop at Watergrasshill from all of 100m. Kenneally of course nearly crashed when trying to bring him back. Coffee and cake all around at the feed stop was well earned but not enjoyed as the Secretary was mad to hit the road again. We eventually got going again however and continued down the old Cork road to Glanmire. From there we climbed out of Glanmire up to the old Youghal road and continued on from there through Glountaune and onto Carrigtowhill. Taking the lumpy back road from Carrigtowhill to Midleton we soon made our way onto the main road at Midleton and cruised along the back road to Mogeely and Killeagh. From Killeagh we headed straight for Youghal and our tired legs tackled the Bye-pass with the Secretary piping Fabian at the top. From there we dropped back down into town for 12.30pm with a hardy 125km completed. Hats off to Kieran who completed his first spin over the 100km mark. Hats down to the Secretary who did nothing but complain all day.

The second main group of 6 headed east for Ballymacoda and Garryvoe. From there they followed the coast to Shanagarry and Cloyne before making their way onto Saleen and the Loop around East Ferry. The new official club Mechanic, Mark was put into action around East Ferry when he had to repair his own puncture with lightening speed. On the road again, they headed for Ballinacurra and the Topaz garage at the roundabout for the usual pit stop. Fully refueled, they departed for the long climb up to Dungourney before dropping back down again and into Mogeely and Castlemartyr. Back on the main road, they swiftly rode back to Youghal via Killeagh and a full on sprint up the bye-pass. Spin of 80km was completed for 12.00pm. Good work again lads.

The third and final group of 6 also gathered at Moby Dicks last Sunday morning at 10.00am for their weekly run. They covered a sheltered route around East Cork taking in Ballymacoda, Ladysbridge, and Castlemartyr for the coffee stop, Killeagh and back to Youghal for 12.45pm with a challenging 40km loop completed.
