YOUGHAL CYCLING CLUB NOTES 8th May 2010

Back to basics last Sunday morning when a peleton of 10 riders gathered as always outside Moby Dicks at around 9.00 am. With all the chit chat over we headed on out the main road to Killeagh where we turned left down the bog road and on to Ballymacoda. From there we climbed over the coast road to Garryvoe, rolled on through Shanagarry and bounced our way through the start of Cloyne. With all riders going well we rode onto Saleen and opened it up around East Ferry before we rolled down through Ballinacurra and our scheduled stop at the garage adjacent to the Midleton roundabout. With everyone feeling good, we enjoyed a well deserved hot cup of coffee. Refueled and ready for road, we traveled back the main N25 through Castlemartyr and Killeagh before arriving home to Youghal for around 12.00 pm with 80km in the legs. As always, it was a very comfortable spin and again a good turn out on the day.

The 10 O’ Clock group consisting of 6 riders also gathered on the good morning and traveled out the main road to Dungarvan before turning down for Piltown and Ardmore. From there they climbed on up to Kiely’s Cross and opened it up down into Youghal and up over the Bye-Pass They also arrived back into Town for around 12.15 with another challenging 50km completed for those who participated.

Where is John Healy ? Concern was expressed by club members over the whereabouts of a certain John Healy last weekend. He has been missing now for four weeks. For anyone who doesn’t know John, He is a strong, fit character who looks a bit like “ Desperate Dan ”. Any sightings should be reported immediately to the Club Secretary. A reward is on offer !!!!

The Jim O’Leary and Ken O’Keeffe Race.

The annual Jim O’Leary and Ken O’Keeffe races took place on Sunday last at Whitechurch, Cork and three club men pinned on the race number for the event. Eoin Whyte and Brian Sanders took part in the combined A2 & A3 Race while James O’ Mahoney deputed in the A4 Race. Eoin done well to finish in the top 10 and Brian who was also pinning on the number for the first time finished in the top 20. Not bad results for a peleton of over 100. James also done very well to finish just behind the main group for his first race. Well done boys. Hope ye keep it up and that the new club kit arrives before your next outing in Wexford.
