Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 28th October 2012

Club Spins Taking advantage of the recent spell of dry weather there have been club spins getting out on Saturday and Sunday last. Last Saturday a group left from Lidl at 10am and covered a pleasant 80km route with an average speed of 25kph. A second group had headed off a little earlier and took in a 90km route at a higher speed averaging 28kph. Sunday morning with the charity cycle scheduled for 10.30am the same two groups headed off a little earlier to get in 30 & 50km routes before meeting up back at Moby Dicks.

Club Charity Cycle On a fresh Sunday morning with clear blue skies, Youghal Cycling Club were delighted to have their Club charity cycle in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. By the time we rolled out a nice peloton of 80 cyclists, aging from 10 years to seniors had assembled to take in the 40km return trip to Castlemartyr. The pace was kept controlled to keep the peloton to three separate groups to suit riders of varying ability. With a strong westerly blowing into our faces the riding was challenging and 90 minutes later all 80 riders had rolled into Castlemartyr. Here we were treated to the finest refreshments sponsored by The Village Greengrocer, again a big thanks to the Walsh family for their continued sponsorship and support! Nicely fuelled with the finest fresh scones and cakes we departed Castlemartyr and took the return leg to Youghal. This time the wind was on our tails and pushed us nicely back to town for 1:30pm. The club would like to thank all the cyclists that turned up for the event. We would like to thank the solo riders and the families that turned up for the event. Folks, remember we are looking to build numbers and have groups for all ability if you feel you would like to take up cycling with the club. We would also like to thank the cyclists from Dungarvan.

Cycling Club and Midleton Cycling & Triathlon Club who came and supported the event.
