Youghal Cycling Club Notes – Sunday 22nd January 201

The headline for the weekend must be – A WEEKEND FULL OF WIND. But this was not to deter the men and ladies of Youghal Cycling Club. Again there was a hectic schedule of cycling, up first was the Saturday group of 10 cyclists that headed off from Lidl at 10am. With a strong north easterly wind blowing, they headed off to Ardmore and onto Kiely’s Cross. From here they continued onto Mount Stuart before dropping down into Capaquinn for the the cuppa tea. Nicely refuelled they were back into climbing as they headed off towards Knockanore, before swinging right, and up onto the Tallow road. Finally, after 3 hours cycling they had the wind on their backs, here they opened up the throttle and descended nicely into town with 85km on the legs.

The Sunday morning group of 21 cyclists were me with an equally challenging south westerly wind. They decided to go east into it and took the back roads as far as Killeagh. From here they headed out to Mogeely and veered towards Midleton. Skipping the town centre we veered towards Lisgoold before turning off on the wood road and climbed steady to Ballynasheka. From here it was onto Riverstown and Glanmire before finally stopping for a well earned tea stop in Glounthaine. At last we had the wind on our backs and the pace picked up a little as our wheels were rolling nicely on the good tarmac. With very little sprinting today we were content with keeping the pace up, that was of course until we spotted that the Rubber Bandit had got the knock for the second week running. He was followed by The Hamster, who for a change was the quiet one of the group this week. From Burgess Cross it was a three man sprint, let out by KKK (with his white Hudz), Robbie Keane and Tarmac (‘coz he is always on the road!). They finally ran out of Kangaroo Juice at the end of the bypass, where they held up for the rest of the group and rolled into town with a nice 100km on the legs, average speed of 28kph.

Folks – membership is overdue, please talk to the committee to settle up as the Club runs on a tight budget and this is our primary source of income. We don’t like having to ask you.
