Directions:

Coming from the South on Brooks Street:

Turn east, right, onto South Avenue at the stop light by the fair grounds, go past the fair grounds, and the church is just across from Sentinel High School. Parking is behind the church on Sussex (not Central). Turn left onto Bow Street from South Avenue and go one block to Sussex, turn left and the church is the second church on the left. Go to the large parking lot at the rear of the church. Use the church entrance from the parking lot on Sussex.

Coming from the North, East or West:

Turn off Brooks onto Stephens Avenue, go past CVS and Walgreens on either side of Stephens. Turn left on Central at the Missoula Manor. Go one block and turn right on Holburn Street. Proceed one block to Sussex and there is the church and its parking lot. It is the first church on the west end. Use the church entrance from the parking lot on Sussex.

Take the elevator to the Paris Hall. Someone will also be at the door to welcome you!

Expenses: $308.06 ($20.00 reimbursement to Erling Gustafson for Montana Corporation annual filing fee, $250.00 to the Friends of the Historical Museum Annual Membership, $36.06 reimbursement to Betty Ann Gustafson for printing and mailing of 2022 membership list ($18.70) and a sunshine basket ($17.36) for Eric Molten following his surgery.)


Bibler Garden Tour, May 12 at 11:30 AM, $15.00 per person.

The Missoula Garden Club is hosting a tour of the Bibler Garden in Kalispell, MT. You will car caravan to Kalispell, bring a sack lunch, and enjoy lunch together among the beautiful spring flowers. Please RSVP by April 15, to Gary Clark, 406.728.7633, or to Betty Ann Gustafson, swedeandba@gmail.com if you plan to attend.

Check your cupboards, closets, etc. for items relating to flowers to sell at the June 10-11, Iris and Peony Shows, at the Holiday Inn Downtown. It was by invitation from the Missoula Garden Club State Convention that we are having our show during their convention. The Missoula Garden Club will have a “Ways and Means Table” where your donated items will be sold to help offset the costs of the atrium being used for the flower shows. We will collect your contributions in May.

Memorandum of Understanding, (MOA), between the Missoula Iris Society, Fort Missoula Historical Museum, and Missoula County.

Our 5 year lease has been signed by the Missoula Iris Society. We are now waiting for signatures from the Fort Missoula Historical Museum board, and Missoula County. We thank Jim Sadler, member, for negotiating the Missoula Iris Society interest in the lease.

Missoula Iris Society Median Show, May 21, 2022, at the home of Judy Blunt. It will depend on the growing season coinciding with the date of the show. The past few years we have not been able to have the show due to the lack of flowers blooming.

Missoula Iris Society annual iris show, June 10-June 11, at the Holiday Inn Downtown. Details to come later.

Magic Valley Iris Society, Twin Falls, ID, is having their show May 27-29. Dell Perry will be conducting judges training. You are welcome to participate in the show and judges training. Contact Jeanette Graham at onthegograham@gmail.com for information.

2022 Siberian/Species Iris Convention is May 27-29 in the greater Seattle, WA, area. Patrick Spence, who led judges training here for us last year, is the co-chair. Convention registration is $195, due by May 15.

Judges: Remember you have a new Judges Handbook for this year which you can purchase through the AIS (American Iris Society) Storefront!

Judges: If you are taking judges training through AIS webinars, please mail your tests to Cindy Davis, RVP, or print off and take a photo and send to her.

MIS MINUTES OF MARCH 5, 2022

The Missoula Iris Society meeting was called to order at 7:50 p.m. by President Betty Ann Gustafson at the Immanual Lutheran Church meeting hall. Prior to the meeting the drawings for Presidential rhizomes were held. Winners were as follows:

Treasurer’s Report – Swede Gustafson reported the savings and checking balance. See above.


OLD BUSINESS

Memorandum of Understanding with The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula has been finalized. Jim Sadler discussed the Agreement with The Historical Museum which has been finalized and signed for five years.

Garden Handicapped Pathway – Ann Bowman discussed the project for the disabled pathway in the Fort Iris Garden. Jim Sadler will coordinate with her to file for a Walmart grant of $500 to help with costs.


NEW BUSINESS


Fort Garden Work Party – Clean up work will begin the first week of May 1, 2022. Members are encouraged to schedule some work time at the garden. And do not forget to sign in your time at the sign in station near the Siberian garden.

American Iris Society Judges training – Judges training will be offered the first week of each month beginning in May. Most of our judges are up to date on credits.

Median Iris Show – Median show to be held at the home of Judy Blunt on Saturday May 21. Design categories were passed out.


Missoula in Bloom – Missoula in Bloom is the theme for the iris and peony show and tour this year which will be shared with the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs. The events will be held June 10 and 11, 2022, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday at Holiday Inn, Downtown. Friday includes a reception, an awards ceremony and heavy finger foods. There is a minimum charge to attend. Jim Sadler is chair of the Federation of Garden Clubs show, Betty Ann Gustafson is chairperson of the Missoula Iris Society show and Gary Clark is chair of the peony show. The flower shows will be held in the atrium.

The garden tour will be held Saturday, June 11, which will include the peony garden on the University of Montana grounds, the Fort Missoula Iris Garden, and the home garden of Jim and Linda Sadler at 1220 Clements Road. The Sadler home garden will offer champagne and nibbles at 4:00 p.m.

Set up for the show begins at 6 a.m. Saturday. Judging is at 10:30 a.m. Tear down will be Saturday, 5:00 – 6:00 pm. Cost to MIS will be $200 as their share. Jim Sadler plans to promote private donations and a silent auction to help with the rest of the expense. A discussion of set-up of tables for the show followed.


Bibler Gardens Tour - A tour of the Bibler Gardens in Kalispell is being planned for Thursday, May 12, 2022, sponsored by the Missoula Garden Club. Cost is $15. RSVP to Betty Ann Gustafson at swedeandba@gmail.com by April 15, 2022 if you wish to attend.
