FORT GARDEN REPORT:

All of the irises have been cut back for the winter season and the clippings delivered to Missoula Compost at a minimal charge. The leaves on the lawn were raked, bagged and 6 large bags were delivered to the same destination at no cost November 23.

I noticed the “Volunteer work post and box structure” was in need of renovation as the paint on the post was flaking off. I brought the structure home, disassembled the post materials, sanded all the surfaces down to new wood, re-assembled the post and put on two coats of primer followed by two coats of paint on the post and also the box. The color is now the same green as our storage shed. I am thinking about relocating this structure to a new location in the garden as the Historical Museum's irrigation system sprays water on this structure for an hour each and every day of the summer. This is entirely too hard on the finish and wood as it never gets a chance to dry out. MIS irrigation system runs only twice a week so our system doesn't apply much water to the structure.

Respectfully submitted,

Swede Gustafson, Treasurer and 2020 Fort Chair Person
