Message from the President

I am going to try and get a message written each month for the rest of this year for the newsletter. Now if I can just find the time and get busy and do it.

With all this wet and cold spring weather I am wondering how the iris are doing. I seem not to have lost many to the last winter and have not really found any rot yet.

I am hoping that I can promote some more interest in the Fort Iris Garden as I feel that most of the members have just left it up to Billie. I know that she does not have enough time to do it all by herself so I am hoping to find a way to get the rest of the club members to participate and make the garden all that it can be. I know that I only have so much time myself and since I am getting older I am feeling the aches and pains too. I do feel that if we all try a bit harder we can make the garden the best that it can be.

We need more members and I feel that the garden can attract them if we use it for that purpose. If we have some demonstrations in the garden on raising iris I feel we can find more people who are truly interested in iris to join the club. I hope that by doing this I am not stepping on any member’s toes and I am open to all and any suggestions and help.

Your President

Ed Verplancke

Treasurer Report: Swede, there are no changes in the numbers as shown in the March minutes

New Business: A host home is needed for the June 2nd meeting, Elizabeth is ill and cannot host the meeting as usual. New member Tom Robinson came to his first meeting and brought a friend Billie Izzard, he offered to host the June meeting at the Milltown Garden Patch information about the garden can be found at www.milltowngardenpatch.org it is noted there is some great information on there site about the garden. There are picnic tables and bench that can be used. It was agreed that we would have a picnic there. To get there take Milltown Exit, to Hwy 200, Turn right at Harold’s club go about 1/4 mile to Columbia Street.

Betty Ann discussed show it is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, 2012, they have the insurance that was need for the show and use of the Community Room. Pete has the show schedule ready to print but is waiting to see if we will have a visiting judge. Donna Dowell and Betty Ann will be having a meeting with the mall about the space we need for set up as a new business is located along the place we have used in the pass, so we need to find out where and how much space we can use. Everyone will need to clean up the personal items after set up. It was suggested that since the pet shop is closing that maybe ask if we can use that space for set up. Anita has agreed to iron the table clothes. I’ve done that job, it is not an easy task. Thanks Anita. Also Betty Ann will need to get seals for the ribbons we use. Also after the show that evening before take down there will be Cake and Ice Cream and an awards program in the Community Room at the Mall. Also the May meeting will contain a program on staging your iris for the show.
