REPORT FROM THE SHOW CHAIRMAN:

The 2018 Median Show was held Saturday, May 19, at the home of Judy Blunt. There were eight exhibitors, and a total of 73 iris vied in the horticultural and artistic divisions. Roger Muir won the silver medal for most blue ribbons [12] and Fred Frey took home the bronze with 7 blues, 1 red and 1 white. The largest class was comprised of standard dwarf bearded iris, with 32 competitors. Roger Muir won with Cat's Eye. Gary Clark's tall bearded iris, Immortality, won that category. We had a total of 11 intermediate bearded iris. Best IB and also Best of Show was presented to Judy Blunt for Action Adventure. Donna Dowell was head judge for the show, and in the horticultural division, she was joined by fellow judges Roger Muir, James Sadler, Cindy Davis and Gary Clark.

There were nine artistic entries in the theme of Montana's Literary Treasures. Donna Dowell won Best of Show for her interpretation of "Wing Shot," an arrangement suggesting motion. Judy Blunt took runner-up for "Where Rivers Change Direction," an arrangement featuring water. The title of Sweepstakes Winner saw a tie between Jim Sadler and Donna Dowell, each with three blue ribbons.

Cheryl Caroll and Lynn Weger judged the artistic division.

The next show is June 2 in the J.C. Penney court at the Southgate Mall. We'll be setting up the night before, and ready to go by 8 a.m. Saturday. Judging will begin at 11. Below is a listing of the artistic divisions. We hope to get new members interested in trying arrangements--they enter the first few shows in the novice category, and are not judged against the experienced designers so the pressure is off. It's great fun. If you're interested in some information, email Judy Blunt: jjblunt@msn.com
