YELLOW AND RED OLD IRIS?...A local iris lover named Cathy Stewart wrote a question on our website. If you know the name of the iris she refers to, send her an e mail at mtstew54@yahoo.com or call Carol Addeo and she'll e mail the answer to her. "Hello - do you know if you will be selling an old variety of yellow and red iris in July? It's a deep crimson red. I accidently thinned all those out last time and it was my favorite. Also, I've been looking online - will you be selling any re-blooming iris and do you know if they do OK in Montana? There's a place in Nebraska that sells them. Thanks a lot! cathy" e:mail at mtstew54@yahoo.com

It's Their Birthday!!....Let's Give 'Em a Cheer!!!

Happy birthday to Cindy Davis - July 5th; Billie Gray - July 12th; and Fred Frey - July 20th. Have a happy birthday all.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Hello Again,

The show actually turned out to have a lot more blooms in it than I thought we would have with all the nasty weather beforehand. Thanks to all who helped make it a great success. I was amazed to see so many people looking at the iris. A special "Well Done" to Betty Ann and Donna for their hard work. It was an honor to have won the Best of Show last year.

For those of you who have been to the fort garden I would appreciate comments on the block border that I have added to the Median Iris bed. I hope that it will be useful and from my view it will make it a lot easier to maintain; for that alone it was worth all the aches and pains of doing it.

I hope that everyone got out to watch the medians bloom as they were well worth the trip. I took lots of pictures so anyone who wishes may get them from me. The tall bearded are blooming now and I also am taking lots of pictures so anyone who would like can get them from me also.

Until next month, Your President,

Mr. Verplancke

A message from Swede:

Betty Ann and I went to see the Iris Garden at Thompson Falls over the weekend. Charlotte has a nice garden located in clearing in a wooded area about a quarter mile or so off the main highway. It is located on a slope so standing water is not a problem for her. She raised irises near Yakima, WA for many years before moving to MT in 2007. Her garden is in great condition, has nice soil for irises, and is irrigated with soaker hoses, which puts the water in the rows and not in the walkways. Her irises are tidy, tall and well branched which for Montana is an excellent trait. She is in just over the peak season of bloom but sill has plenty in bloom. It was worth the trip to see her garden. She is not interested in joining iris organizations as of yet but maybe in the future bring some irises to our show in Missoula.

IRIS SHOW REPORT AND THANK YOU....

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the 52nd Missoula Iris Society Show for 2012. Despite our crazy weather we had 16 exhibitors and 139 entries. An interesting note is that on the winners table we had different irises than last year except for 2. That also means amongst the 139 we had a lot of different irises entered which means our society growers have a lot of iris to choose from. Keep up the 'Love of Iris". We also want to thank Judy Blunt for the wonderful 'iris' cake and ice cream we enjoyed during our awards ceremony. Thanks to our members who made this a great show!

Betty Ann and Donna, co chairs
