Christmas Party Reminder: Billie Gray will host the Christmas Party again this year on Saturday December 11th at 4:00 p.m. Start thinking about the Christmas Party Gift Exchange which we do every year.

Everyone brings a wrapped gift (up to $12.00 value) and we put all the gifts in the center of the room and then pick numbers to see who goes first. The #1 person gets to pick any gift from the pile. The gift is opened for all to see. Then the #2 person in line can pick the gift that #1 picked or pick from the stack and the same goes for each one thereafter. If you pick one of the opened gifts, then that person now can pick someone else’s gift or from the stack. The limit is 3 times for any one gift to own. There is a lot of heavy duty trading between everyone and the laughs just keep coming. It is a great end to a wonderful year with our friends and members.

Members, be thinking about which committees/positions you might be interested in for 2011. Contributing in this way to our organization keeps you involved, active and knowledgeable about what is going on. Talk to the current committee chairperson to see what is involved.

Budget Meeting on October 10, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.

Present - President Ed Verplancke, Vice President Betty Ann Gustafson, Treasurer Swede Gustafson, Billie Gray - Fort Garden Chair, and Anita Verplance - MIS member Meeting called to order at 6:15 pm by the President. President Ed talked about the probability of smaller iris rhizome sales due to the fact most MIS members do not have a large number of irises in their gardens. Therefore, he does not see a large quantity of rhizomes coming from these gardens which will lead to smaller sales until the Fort Garden produces again. Billie Gray arrived while this discussion was going on and suggested she could contact the owners of a large garden in the West Bitterroot Valley who want to move their iris gardens to a new location on their property. The varieties are named, are large clumps, and in excellent condition. Some were purchased at past iris sales. If she can get a commitment from these growers for MIS to assist in the digging and movement of the iris, we could have a good sale in 2011. Betty Ann served the members a Taco Soup dinner while this discussion was occurring.

Swede brought up a suggestion which involved the liability cost to the Missoula Iris Society for removal of the display garden at Fort Missoula should sometime in the future the membership decide to no longer be able to or wish to maintain the gardens for public viewing. He mentioned several years ago values from $4,000 to $7,600 were obtained from contractors to remove all items in the gardens and return the area back to how MIS found It when the gardens were started in the 1980's. Discussion about this item led to the fact some entity would want to either assist MIS or actually take over part or all of the gardens as the area has become a great asset to the Historical Museum. For now the matter was tabled, but Swede will show a removal value on the MIS Profit/Loss statement.

Swede passed out two financial documents to assist the officers present in determining the 2011 MIS budget. The first was the financial statement showing our net worth using the checking and saving account values. The second was a listing of the 2010 budgetary categories showing the 2010 values, the 2010 actual spending values, and the balances, remaining for each category. By using these values and the financial statement the officers were able to determine a suggested value for each of the categories for 2011.

The suggested values will be printed in the November 2010 newsletter and can be discussed at the 2010 November meeting and will be voted on by the membership present at the ANNUAL MEETING in January 2011along with any suggested value or category changes made at the November or January meeting

The budgetary meeting was adjourned at 9 pm on October 10, 2010

Respectfully submitted,

Swede Gustafson, Treasurer
