Here is the "new" renamed newsletter. The newsletter page is redone and we are now official. Thanks to Fred for the wonderful list of names and ideas to choose from. You all have chosen this name and we all owe a round of applause to both Fred and ourselves.

It's getting close to the end of the year and there will be some nice changes coming. Our annual Christmas party is near at hand and we hope that all of you can attend as we have sooooo much fun and sooo much food to enjoy.

MIS Board Meeting - The 2007 budget meeting of MIS will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at the home of Swede and Betty Ann Gustafson beginning at 2:00 p.m. All members are welcome to attend; attendance by the officers is mandatory.

ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS: We have a nice informational packet to give you which includes a membership list, a discount coupon from Marchies Nursery and lots of great growing tips on iris, plus all the important events of our society. Come to the meeting to receive your packet, but if you can't come, call or e mail Carol Addeo and we'll mail it to you. Her e mail is carolyn@montana.com or call 251-5833.

Sale Card File Work Party - Card file get together on Nov. 11 at Cleo Swanson's at 1 pm. Please come and help get card file in shape.

December Christmas Party - The Christmas Party this year will be held at the home of Billie Gray on Sunday, December 3 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Everyone be hunting for that special garden related gift valued at up to $12.00 for the fun gift exchange and annual gift steal, trade and hide.

Rose Mary Baier - Everyone say a prayer for a quick recovery for Rose Mary. She and Ken returned from Seattle and now Rose Mary is undergoing chemotherapy.

Sympathy Note: Lynn Weger's mother, Hertha O. Weger, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, October 22, at Community Hospital. She was here visiting Lynn from her home in Seven Hills, Ohio. Herta Weger, 86, was born and raised in Ohio. She is survived by her daughter Lynn and son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Darlene G.

Minutes of the Missoula Iris Society Meeting, Saturday, October 7, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President Pete Addeo at 7:35 p.m. at the home of Alayne Hilditch.

Minutes - The minutes of the September 16, 2006 meeting were approved as they appeared in the October newsletter.

Treasurers Report was read by President Pete in the absence of the treasurer:

Savings Account as of August 31 $6,867.55

Checking Account Balance as of August 31 $613.86

Check to Swede Gustafson $142.80

Total $471.05

Check paid was to pay for new concrete landscaping blocks along the north face of the area where the benches are placed. The existing blocks were moved over to the edging around the Siberian bed.

OLD BUSINESS

Historical Grant Received - Carol reported that the grant from the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula has been received in the amount of $410.00. These funds will reimburse MIS for the cost of publishing the historical booklet, "Fifty years of iris growing, 25 years of iris showing".

Officer nominations for 2007 - The nominating committee announced the following nominations:

The vote will take place at the November meeting.

Fort Gardens Report - Billie Gray reports that the Fort Gardens are at rest. No hard frost yet, but annuals will be removed after the hard frost. The Spuria bed is done. Plants at the base of the arbor are planted. Thank you to everyone who helped. There is some soil left in a pile across the road under the tree; it is free to pick up, but do not plant iris in it. Pete also thanked the 11 or 12 members who helped at the September work party. It was a good turnout and a lot was accomplished.

Sale card file: Alverta only has two lists of members iris. She needs lists of iris from everyone.

NEW MEMBERS ATTENDED: Welcome back to Pat Redler, who re-joined after a long absence.

NEW BUSINESS

AIS Library - Alverta reminded us that AIS has a library and they want copies of our newsletters. Information is in the October AIS Bulletin. Carol will mail a copy of our historical booklet to the library.

Web Site - Pete announced that there is now a section on our web site for an introduction to prospective new members. Some members did not receive the e mailed newsletter. Pete will check on that.

RVP - Ann Violette's term as the Regional Vice President for Region 11 is about to expire. She sent an e mail requesting that we support Jayme Adams of Idaho as the next RVP. A motion was presented by Zona Lindemann, seconded by Linda Sadler and passed that we support Jayme Adams as the next Region 11 Vice President. Carol will sent a notice of support to Ann Violette by e mail.

Card File Research - Alverta mentioned that Lauri Swanson has offered to go online in search of iris pictures/photographs for our card file. Alverta requested we purchase the color ink cartridge and a ream of paper for her. Pete offered to get the cartridge at a wholesale price if someone will tell him the printer name and number. A motion was made by Ron Dunn, seconded by Linda Sadler and passed to approve this purchase.

Christmas Party - The annual Christmas party. gift exchange (and gift steal) will be held at Billie Gray's home on Sunday afternoon, December 3, 2006 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Billie will provide the turkey, Symes will be back-up on the turkey if needed, everyone should do the usual potluck thing, and bring your own bottle (BYOB) if you want a toddy. The gift purchase is to be garden related and one gift per person at a maximum price of $12.00. The traditional pick and take gift game was explained to the new members.

Budget Board Meeting - The budget for 2007 will be proposed at a board meeting on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at the home of Swede and Betty Ann Gustafson a 2:00 p.m. All members who are interested are invited to attend.

Auditing Committee - The audit committee was set as Bob Symes, Alverta Symes, and Zona Lindemann; the audit is to take place in December prior to the January meeting.

Falls and Standards - We had a lot of fun with the newsletter naming contest. Fred Frey came prepared with a board and a lot of suggestions. Some great names were suggested, including Rhizome Rose, Rhizonian, The Iris News, From the Eye of the Iris. The final choice by a process of voting elimination was Falls and Standards.

Mentor a new member - A discussion on the absence of many new members. Anyone who encouraged someone to join should contact them and invite them to attend the meetings. Mentor them and let them know what fun they are missing.

Card File Work Party - A work party will be held in November. Alverta will put the date and location in the next newsletter.

Presidential Rhizome Steve Hesla won the Presidential Rhizome for October.
