MINUTES OF THE MISSOULA IRIS SOCIETY MEETING ON APRIL 11, 2015

Missoula Iris Society meeting was held at Gustafsons’. There were 10 people present.

Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer's report were accepted as printed in the newsletter.

OLD BUSINESS:

Show Report: The date of the annual iris show has been changed to June 6. With the rate of growth due to weather conditions it was felt that June 20 would be too late to hold the iris show. A head judge needs to be appointed. Ed Verplancke volunteered to print the show schedules, Fred Frey will check on printing posters, Gary Clark will contact Paradise Falls for a banquet, Donna Dowell will make up the blue and red award ribbons, and Anita Cervenak will iron the table cloths.

Garden Judging Class: Jim Sadler will be contacted about a date for a garden judging class.

Pictures:Ed Verplancke has looked through the society's picture albums for a picture of Alverta Symes to send with an article for the Iris Bulletin. It looks like Alverta was very good at avoiding pictures because we cannot find a good picture. Donna Dowell is going to go through her pictures from when she maintained the albums and see if she might have one.

NEW BUSINESS

Fort Gardens:

Ed Verplancke reported we have lost 47 varieties of iris including 6 Dykes winners at the fort. We have lost Silverado and Sky Watch again. It was decided to put a picture in the Kiosk of those Dykes Medal winners who will not survive at the Fort rather than replace them. Ed will order replacement iris for some of the losses from the Mid-America Garden and the Rocky Top Garden Iris Catalogs. The members present approved this decision.

WORK PARTIES:

April 19 at 10:00 AM, May 17 at 10:00 AM, and June 14 at 10:00 AM. No work party on June 17. We will ask the young man whom we have hired to help us weed, to be there for the April 19 work party. We will get to meet him and discuss weeding duties.

BIBLER GARDEN TOUR (Kalispell): May 7 Sponsored by the 5 Valleys Dahlia and Glad Society. Cost is $10.00. We will carpool. Please call Gary Clark, 728-7633, for details and to reserve your spot. The gardens are only open for private tours. We will see many beautiful spring flowers.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL: June 10, Fort Missoula Iris Garden at 5:00 PM. Home made ice cream by Judy Blunt. Yum!

NEWSLETTER: June issue will come out by May 15. Please get information in early.

Roger Muir: April rhizome winner.
