TREASURER'S REPORT: as of May 22, 2019

SAVINGS ACCOUNT: $7105.48

CHECKING ACCOUNT: $ 795.83 as per May Newsletter

Income received 10.00

May Balance Subtraction error 10.00

Sub- Total $ 815.83

Total Expenses Paid 338.00

Balance $ 477.83

I noted this month the reported balance for the account was off by $10.00 so I added the value to the correct balance for April Bank Statement. The expenses I have paid this month include: $12.00 to AIS for the purchase of seals for the show entry tags; $40.00 to AIS for the purchase of a packet of 10 each 2020 calendars; $36.00 to Judy Blunt for the printing charge for the Median and General Show schedule booklets which she handed out at the May meeting; $250.00 to Southgate Mall for the JC Penny Court space for the June 8 Iris Show. Total expenses paid = $338.00.

The membership received was from Nancy Ryan, our member in Wyoming. With the membership check was a note in which Nancy stated she suffered a stroke this past February but is doing well. Billie Gray mentioned at our May meeting the stroke was a mild one and Nancy is doing really well.

FORT GARDEN NEWS: The irises in the new garden built last summer are greening up very well in response to the new soil and in spite of the cool spring weather. Likewise the weedy plants are on the same path so Ronda Leno, our hired weeder, has been on the prowl for these. Members should also been out there assisting with the weeding. REMEMBER THIS FACT: DO NOT USE POINTED TOOLS WHEN WEEDING IN THE NEW BED AS THE TOOL WILL PENETRATE THE WEED BARRIER UNDER THE NEW IRISES. The soil is soft enough only a hand trowel will be required to move the soil for access to the roots of the weeds.

Iris flowers have been sparce this spring in my yard due to the cool weather. Have had a nice long display of “LIMONADA” though. Its a lime-yellow IB which was brought over from a Billings irisarian in 2017. Have had 5 spikes with several flowers in perfect sequence on each spike.

Respectfully submitted,

Swede Gustafson, Treasurer

MINUTES OF THE MIS MEETING OF MAY 18, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 7:33pm by Betty Ann Gustafson.

Minutes stand as printed in the bulletin.

Treasurer’s report: Swede stated $753.83 in checking, and 7,105.48 in savings. Received membership dues from Nancy Ryan. Swede ordered Siberian irises from Ensata Gardens in Michigan, received them as requested in the time frame requested. He has ordered Siberian Presidential Iris from them for this year. Which will be arriving in August.

Old Business:

Judy Blunt is working on an article for our club, for the Centennial committee for AIS, regarding the history of our club; it is not yet completed, but is going well. Betty Ann has been in contact with Judy Nolin with AIS and let her know how long we have been affiliated with AIS.

Iris sale: Carol, Gary and Betty Ann will get together to plan. Carol would like to put together information on the responsibilities for the sale chairperson, from digging the iris, cleaning, tables,

tagging and setting up. The sale will be July 27th at the fort, the last Saturday in July as always.

The Out Door Expo that is scheduled at the fort will be at the Bella Vista Pavilion, which is over at the new fields and should not affect our sale. It is the Prairie Sisters event that seems to take a toll on our gardens as they have no respect for the beds.

Judy, Jim and Donna are planning the show in the mall; they handed out show fliers. The show is June 8th. Talked about getting the table cloths pressed at Missoula Textile, will be looking into the cost of just pressing. The last time we sent them there we had them washed also, which was costly. Betty Ann checked on supplies. We have plenty of tape, table wrap, staples and ribbons. Set up is Friday night the 7th at 7pm, and take down by 8pm on Saturday. Betty Ann went to the Mall to confirm everything. They had us down for the 1st of June, but she got it corrected, also insurance is filed with the mall, so we are good to go. Confirmed that they will have tables, water and mops available, the last couple of years we’ve had to go looking for these. Judy spent $36 for 40 programs for the show. She suggested that we print an additional 40 for people who come to view with an extra page where the public viewing can write down the names of the iris they like so when they come to the sale they can look for the ones they enjoyed at the show. This was okayed by Betty Ann and approved by the group, so an additional 40 programs will be printed with the additional page. Betty Ann and Carol have agreed to clerk at the show.

June 1st meeting will be at Fred Frey’s.

Judy can’t do the Ice Cream Social as planned but can do it towards the end of June, June 26th works for her.

Swede said we have an excellent daffodil display at the fort at the present time, and we appear to have only lost a couple of rhizomes this year, possibly due to the continuous snow cover. Marie and Morris have been out weeding already and doing an excellent job. Ronda will be going out 1 to 2 days a week and working, the ends for the radial and east and west beds were a little weedy yet.

New Business:

Betty Ann will be checking with Fred on advertising.

Betty Ann and Swede participated in a focus group at the Fort. They are trying to find ways to make the Fort a destination spot for visitors to Missoula.

The June meeting we will be setting dates for digging for the sale. Basically the Dyke beds are the only ones we will be digging from at the fort. Hopefully Fred will have some.

Gary judged at a show in Texas and Donna judged a show in Walla Walla. Cindy gave a talk on the AIS Convention in California.

Jim Sadler won the May Rhizome.

Betty Ann adjourned the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Cindy Davis
