Minutes of the Missoula Iris Society Meeting: October 6, 2007

The meeting was called to order by President Elinor Utech. The minutes were accepted as read. The treasurer’s report was accepted as printed in the Falls and Standards.

A nominating committee consisting of Ronn Dunn, Fred Frey, and Alverta Symes was appointed. They are to present a slate of candidates at the November meeting. Candidates from the floor can be added at that time. Election of officers will take place at the January, 2008 meeting.

An audit committee was formed. The members are Bob and Alverta Symes and Honk Meyer. The audit is to be completed by December 31, 2007.

Reports

Fort: It was noted that the deer have been helping to put the gardens to bed. They have pruned the roses.

A work party to put the gardens to bed for the winter has been set up for Sunday, October 14, 2007, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The Society’s appreciation was extended to Honk Meyer for his 22 hours of work in the gardens during August. Thanks were also extended to Ed and Anita Verplancke for all the hours they also have put in.

Billie Gray reported that the pavers planned for under the benches run from $3.65 to $3.95 per square foot. She did not have a price for the engraving that would be done on some of the pavers. She will have the engraving cost for the November meeting. Because of the estimated cost to cover the area under the benches, it will be necessary to do the installation in stages.

Shed: Pete Addeo reported that the architect is almost finished with the blueprints. We are not allowed to begin erecting the shed until the blueprint has been turned in to the county and permits obtained. Also because the building will be part of a historical site, the shed must match the style of the existing historical fire station next to it.

The original plan was to begin to begin construction this fall by pouring the foundation slab. Carson Vehrs was going to put us in touch with concrete installers, but he died recently. Pete is now looking for someone with concrete experience to ramrod this portion of the construction.

The Presidential Rhizome was won by Ron Dowell.

Program: The program was a slide show about arils and arilbreds.

Cindy Davis moved the meeting be adjourned; Billie Gray seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Zona Lindemann, Secretary
