The treasurer’s report for May was also approved as it appeared in the newsletter.

OLD BUSINESS

Show Report: Betty Ann Gustafson, chairperson for the June 12 show reported that set up would begin at 8 p.m. Friday evening, June 11. A brief judges meeting headed by Roger Muir will begin at 7 p.m. in the mall community room first. Set up of tables and skirting will be done after the meeting.

The mall opens at 6 am on Saturday and Betty Ann and Swede will be there that early for entrants to start setting up their flowers. Clerks and judges should arrive at 9:30; judging begins at 10:00 a.m. and artistic judging begins at 11 a.m. Clerks include Alayne, Ed, Anita, Judy, Joyce and Donna. Cheryl Carroll will judge the artistic designs. The awards dinner will be at the Red Robin at 6:00 p.m. Dinner choices can be ordered direct from the menu.

Take down tables will begin at 8:00 p.m. The ribbons and awards will be available then. If you are unable to be there to help, someone will get the ribbons to you. Swede emphasized that the silver at the show is for display only; winners cannot take them home, only take the ribbons. Someone is needed to watch the silver at the show during the banquet.

Discussion followed of the Peoples Choice Trophy which was lost for a time and the records of winners were also lost. Any flower can be entered in the People's Choice category. It does not have to be a registered variety, because the Peoples Choice category is not an AIS sanctioned award, it is a Southgate Mall award. Betty Ann reminded everyone that a minimum of seven exhibitors were needed to qualify the show as AIS sanctioned.

As usual, some concern was expressed because we've had such rainy weather and little sun. Will there be any iris blooming?

The Small Garden award for 75 or less varieties in your yard was discussed. No one has ever applied for it. If someone does want to use that category, indicate so on your entry card. Discussion followed on how to structure it.

Show entry tags were passed out. Betty Ann needs more posters for the rhizome sale to pass out at the show. Pete and Carol will print some and get them to her.

Ice Cream Social: Billie Gray asked for input on the proposed ice cream social for members only. This is to be a fun, non working get-together for members to be held at the Fort Gardens. Judy Blunt volunteered to make the ice cream and provide the toppings. It will be held Tuesday evening, June 15th at 7 p.m. Fred Frey offered his garden for tours that evening from 3:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.

The Addeo's will remind everyone by e-mail and postcard of the work party, the open garden tour and the ice cream social.

Rhizome Sale - Carol Addeo reminded everyone of the rhizome sale on July 31, 2010. Fred Frey will handle publicity, including p.s.i.'s and posters.

Iris Lists: Alverta Symes reminded everyone to get their lists of iris in their garden to her in preparation for the sale.

NEW BUSINESS

Betty Ann reported that visitors from San Francisco were here last week and wanted to see the Fort Gardens. She, Alverta and Swede met with them and they were impressed with out gardens. Not too many clubs have public display iris gardens.

Presidential Rhizome Drawing: Alayne Hilditch won the Presidential Rhizome for June.

The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

Following the meeting, Swede and Gary used a few of Elizabeth's blooming iris to demonstrate proper staging for iris entered in the show.
