A note from the Iris Sale Chairman. Four cashiers are needed for the sale. Please try to dig as many iris from your garden as possible as we will not have many coming out of the Fort Garden. Bring all your paper bags...they are needed.

I have contacted one local landscape firm to inquire if they have time this summer to do some of the renovation to the gardens later this year. As I write this message I have not had a reply.

SCHEDULE FOR JULY SALE WEEK – Please come out and help whenever you can.

Monday, July 23 Fort Garden Digging - 7 a.m. to noon. Bring your favorite digger. If you are unable to help with the digging, bring lawn chair, gloves, scissors or clippers and we'll find sit down work for you.

Tuesday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 25– 9:00 a.m to about noon. Sit down work party in the shade at home of Carol & Al Ledford, 5805 Helena Dr, in Linda Vista, to trim, label iris. Call 406-251-5833 for directions.

Wednesday evening is the time to deliver your rhizomes to the Helena Drive sorting location. Put them under the carport roof next to the garage. They should be cleaned and labeled.

Thursday, July 26 & Friday July 27 – 9:00 a.m. until finished. Sort iris on tables, match pictures, and final preparation for sale at home of Carol Addeo & Al Ledford.

Friday, July 27 – 5:00 p.m. Load up iris and tables in pick ups. 6:00 p.m. is potluck supper at home of Carol Addeo and Al Ledford

Saturday, July 28 – 7:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Help set up for Iris Rhizome Sale at Fort Missoula Iris Garden. Bring your lawn chairs. Coffee and snacks provided.

Saturday, 1:00 p.m.- After-sale patio party at home of Billie Gray. Chicken, pizza and drinks provided by the society.

RHIZOME SALE GUIDELINES

Please read the Pre-Sale guidelines carefully. These guidelines were put together to avoid confusion during the sale preparation on Thursday and Friday.

SALE GUIDELINES

·Iris rhizomes shall be grown by MIS members only.

·All rhizomes are to be washed, trimmed and labeled as to variety and type prior to delivery to the collection site. Trim fans to about 4 inches – 6 inches depending on type and roots . MIS will provide labels. These labels should be tied to the rhizome. MDB's and SDB's should be in bundles of three rhizomes, with rubber band and label attached. Beardless iris are to be in clumps.

·Iris varieties introduced 30 years ago (1988) or before are to be labeled with year of introduction and marked as historical.

·Pricing of rhizomes is at the discretion of the sale committee. Age is considered but not color for setting price.

·All rhizomes are to be deliverd to the collection site by 9 p.m. Wednesday preceding the sale.

·Sorting will be done on Thursday and completed on Friday. Chairperson to select committee of MIS members to assist in this process.

·There are to be no pre-sale orders.

PRE-SALE CLARIFICATIONS:

·There is to be no trading of rhizomes among members at the collection site. Members are encouraged to share or trade before bringing rhizomes to the collection site.

·The sale chairperson shall determine which varieties may be traded/purchased by the MIS members. The trading/sale hours are Friday, 9 a.m. - noon.

·Members donating rhizomes may

A. Take one rhizome for each variety donated (no matter how many of any one variety are donated)

B. Take like variety donated (SDB for SDB, TB for TB, etc)

C. Take no more than one (1) rhizome of any one variety.

D. May not choose from a variety that has fewer than six rhizomes in a tray.

4. Members not donating rhizomes may purchase rhizomes with the above restrictions.

5. Varieties 5 years and newer from date of introduction will be so marked and priced accordingly. Fort Display Garden Chairperson has first choice

of any varieties to be placed in the display garden.

6. Grab bags of iris rhizomes may be made up of unamed or overstocked varieties at the discretion of the chairperson by Friday.

Saturday, November 3 – Meeting will be held at home of Carol Addeo and Al Ledford in Linda Vista at 5805 Helena Dr. Board meeting & next year planning starts at 5:00 p.m.; all members are welcome. Pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular membership meeting. Call 406- 251-5833 for directions.
